ORIGINAL STORY (February 16, 2023): Miley Cyrus makes Spotify history thanks to the success of “Flowers.”

Since releasing the empowering single, Cyrus has surpassed 85 million monthly listeners, breaking the record for most monthly listeners by a female artist in Spotify history.

“Flowers” has turned out to be successful in more ways than one. One month after releasing the single, “Flowers” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a fourth week, which the former Disney star recently raved about on social media.

She wrote on Twitter, “Happy one month anniversary of Flowers! To still be celebrating #1 on the Hot 100 & around the world is phenomenal. With Valentines Day coming up tomorrow this song feels even more meaningful to me. I hope this holiday is filled with the joy of honoring LOVE in all of its forms.”

“Flowers” is the lead-single from Cyrus’ upcoming album, Endless Summer Vacation, which drops on March 10.

For the last few months, Miley Cyrus has been teasing her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation. It all started when she began hinting at her new music era by spreading cryptic messages around Los Angeles in December. The following month, she revealed she was releasing her lead single — “Flowers” on her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth‘s birthday. The chart-topping anthem evidently became known as one of Cyrus’ biggest hits leading her to break records, which added to the anticipation of Endless Summer Vacation. Keep scrolling for everything you need to know about the LP.

“Flowers” is believed to be about Liam Hemsworth.

If you’ve been on social media the last few months, chances are you may have heard about all the speculation hinting at the “Flowers” being about Hemsworth. In addition to the song dropping on his birthday (January 13), the lyrics are seemingly a response to Bruno Mars‘ “When I Was Your Man,” which the Australian actor reportedly dedicated to her throughout their on-and-0ff relationship, which began in 2009 on the set of The Last Song and ended for the final time in 2019.

For instance, the following are the lyrics to “When I Was Your Man”: “I should have bought you flowers/ And held your hand/ Should have gave you all my hours/ When I had the chance/ Take you to every party ’cause all you wanted to do was dance.”

Meanwhile, in “Flowers,” Cyrus sings, “I can buy myself flowers/ Write my name in the sand/ Talk to myself for hours/ Say things you don’t understand/ I can take myself dancing/ And I can hold my own hand/ Yeah, I can love me better than you can.”

Endless Summer Vacation features a demo version of “Flowers.”

Prior to the release of her album, Cyrus dropped the demo version of “Flowers.” If you love the original, but you’re into slower-paced music, this is a perfect listen for you.

The album is divided into two parts.

Cyrus revealed Endless Summer Vacation is divided into AM and PM, with songs that correspond to those different times of the day. “The AM to me is representing the morning time where there’s a buzz, an energy and there’s a potential of new possibilities, it’s a new day,” she previously said on Instagram. “And in the nighttime, it feels like there’s a slinky, seediness, and kind of a grime but a glamour at the same time. In the evening, it’s a great time for rest, it’s a time to recover or it’s a time to go out and experience kind of the wild side. L.A. … There’s a certain energy to the night that you can kind of feel trouble boil up to the surface. It’s very inspiring to me.”

The album, reprised of 13 tracks, is a love letter to L.A.

Two of the songs are collabs — “Thousand Miles” featuring Brandi Carlile and “Muddy Feet” featuring Sia. According to Cyrus, Endless Summer Vacation is a love letter to Los Angeles as it’s “a reflection of the strength she’s found in focusing on both her physical and mental well-being.”

“River” is the “nasty” follow-up single to “Flowers.”

Cyrus released the music video for “River” when Endless Summer Vacation dropped. About the new single, Cyrus said, “It was a time in my life where I was going through just a lot emotionally and personally. All of my songs evolve. They can start as something that was a trouble, like, it just feels like it’s an April shower, it never stops raining and then it started raining down love.”

She added, “‘River,’ sometimes we just need a dance floor banger a.k.a. they don’t want me to talk about the fact the song is about [bleep]. It’s f—ing nasty.”

She worked with Mike WiLL Made-It once again.

Mike Will Made-It was behind Cyrus’ 2013 album Bangerz as well as the single “23.” The record producer recently revealed he worked with Cyrus on “Violet Chemistry,” which he shared a snippet of on social media.

Cyrus has revived her Backyard Sessions special for the release of the album.

The first-ever performances from Endless Summer Vacation will be featured on a Backyard Sessions special, which Cyrus first kicked off in 2012. Since then, she’s done two more specials — one in 2015 and another in 2020. The new Backyard Sessions special will also feature a one-of-a-kind performance of “The Climb” in honor of the song’s 14th anniversary.

Endless Summer Vacation is now out on all music streaming platforms. The new Backyard Sessions special premieres on Disney+ on March 10 at 1 p.m. EST.
