ART:

native american woman statue replaces civil war colorado denver black lives matter protestsOver the summer, Black Lives Matter protestors toppled a Civil War memorial in Denver, Colorado. State representatives  have recently voted to replace the statue with a sculpture of a Native American woman in mourning. The statue will commemorate the 1864 Sand Creek massacre where U.S. army soldiers destroyed and pillaged a village of Cheyenne and Arapaho people in southeastern Colorado, as per CPR News.

The Capitol Building Advisory Committee voted 7-2 to build the replacement monument after hearing from descendants of the hundreds that were killed at Sand Creek. “They were wiped out,” Otto Braided Hair, of the Northern Cheyenne, told the committee. “Their voices are no longer heard. Their wishes and concerns were no longer heard. Those are the people we speak for.”

The original statue at the Capitol was torn down during the June 25 protest and had been erected in 1909 as an homage to Colorado solders who fought for the Union during the Civil War. However, the memorial included the name of the colonel who orchestrated the massacre, CBS4 reported. The statue is now being housed at the History Colorado Center.

Artist Harvey Pratt, a Sand Creek descendant, was commissioned to create the statue by the organization One Earth Future. A seven-inch prototype of Pratt’s design has recently been completed and the state legislature will now vote on the scale of the finished work alongside its pedestal.banky pulp fiction print tate ward auction artworks street art graffitiTate Ward recently launched an online auction dedicated to the sale of diverse works in contemporary art and beyond. Titled “By Collectors for Collectors,” the lots featured works by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Anish Kapoor, Damien Hirst, Cy Twombly, among many others.

One of the highlights of the sale was a 2004 print by Banksy titled Pulp Fiction which is an hamage to the cult 1994 American neo-noir, dark comedy crime film directed by Quentin Tarantino. The work portrays John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson in their suit-clad roles of Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield, respectively.

Banksy’s Pulp Fiction snapped up £125,000 GBP (approx. $166,331 USD). The piece first appeared in 2002 near the Old Street tube station. The print was visible until 2007 when Transport for London painted over the wall. When the mural was covered, a local artist spray-painted the words “Come Back” in its place, addressing the note to Banksy. The elusive artist re-tagged his Pulp Fiction in the same place, but this time, the characters were holding actual pistols and dressed in banana costumes instead of suits.

Last month, the East London auction house sold Banksy’s Thrower for over $200,000 USD — a record for the print which has never been sold publicly.

SPORTS: Concerns Raised After Jake Paul Defeats Nate Robinson/Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. Competitive Exhibition Match Ends in a Draw

Jake Paul nate Robinson boxing fight defeat concernsShortly before last night’s draw between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., YouTube star Jake Paul defeated former NBA basketball player Nate Robinson after a brutal second round stoppage.

Robinson — who was floored twice before the decisive blow in the second — needed medical assistance in the ring following the bout after he was motionless on the canvas after crashing down face first in the fight.

Despite the win, seven-time world champion Amanda Serrano voiced her concerns around “celebrity boxing” and warned that someone could get “really hurt”.

“Boxing is a serious game. Nothing to be doing for YouTube likes,” the Puerto Rican said. “Most amateurs turning pro fight four rounds, these guys are debuting in a six-rounder. Someone’s going to get really hurt one day. Not cool at all.”

Paul, who made his debut earlier this year, has followed in the footsteps of brother Logan who took on KSI in 2019. Such fights have caused questions to be raised, while exhibition events like Tyson’s bout against Jones have also raised eyebrows.

Tyson’s former trainer Teddy Atlas took to Twitter and said: “I don’t care about athletes or not, stop allowing guys who don’t know how to fight into a ring. Paul has actually trained to fight. Awful. Why have a California commission if they allow this.”

Following his victory, Paul called out UFC star Conor McGregor, vowing he would knock the Irishman out.

In other news, the Undertaker has officially retired from WWE.Mike Tyson Roy Jones Jr. Competitive Exhibition Match Result Draw Info Boxing WBCServing as the main event of the inaugural Legends Only League pay-per-view, Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. put on a spectacular exhibition match for combat sports all around the world.

The night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles saw a card of six bouts including a light heavyweight battle between YouTube personality Jake Paul and Nate Robinson, which ended in the former NBA player getting knocked out in the first round.

Regarded as the absolute best fighters of their generations, the Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. finally faced off following unfulfilled talks during their time as active competitors. Despite being an exhibition match, the fight was scored remotely by the World Boxing Council‘s assigned “celebrity judges” for the WBC-created Frontline Championship.

Both in their 50s, the two incredibly showed expressions of their former glory in a highly competitive exhibition match. The back in forth saw Jones provide flurries while Tyson returned with heavy body shots that cracked his opponent after the fourth round. At the end of eight rounds, Tyson outlanded Jones 67-37 with 35 body punches.

Ultimately, Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. was officially ruled a draw. It should be noted that the “official score” is unofficial in that this is an exhibition as well as the fight being scored by remote WBC-assigned judges and not California State Athletic Commission judges.

Speaking after the fight, Tyson noted that he was happy with the draw but that he believes he won the fight, While Jones subtly noted his dissatisfaction with the result and how hard his opponent hit. 54-year-old Mike Tyson also revealed that he aims to move forward and step into the ring again in the near future.

RIHANNA RUMORED TO STAR IN 'BLACK PANTHER 2' & MORE

Rihanna Rumored to Star in 'Black Panther' Sequel Movie Marvel Studios Film Cast List Following The Hollywood Reporter‘s announcement that sources have confirmed that the sequel to Marvel‘s Black Panther is set to begin shooting in Atlanta in July 2021, eager-eyed fans of the movie have spotted that Rihanna‘s name has been added to the list of cast members on Google, alongside returning names including Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Angela Basset and Danai Gurira.

Following the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman three months ago, it is unclear how the franchise will continue without the praised actor. Boseman made history in his role as King T’Challa, playing a Black superhero that kids all over the world looked up to and saw representation on the big screen, and the role will not be the same without him. Marvel has already confirmed that his role will not be re-cast, nor that Boseman will appear in the film through CGI, meaning that the sequel has been entirely re-scripted.

As for the addition of Rihanna to the cast, it is yet unclear whether the star will take on a role in the franchise. We have yet to hear from Marvel or the star herself, but the singer and entrepreneur has previously starred in films like Oceans Eight and Battleship, so she’s no stranger to acting. Stay tuned if any more information regarding the movie surfaces.FENTY's First "10-20" Drop Stars Statement-Making SunglassesRihanna FENTY "10-20" Sunglasses Collection Blockt II Mask White BlackRihanna FENTY "10-20" Sunglasses Collection Blockt II Mask White BlackRihanna FENTY "10-20" Sunglasses Collection Blockt II Mask White BlackRihanna FENTY "10-20" Sunglasses Collection Blockt II Mask White BlackFENTY has announced the first drop from this month’s “10-20” collection, introducing glamorous new sunglasses for the fall season.

The collection takes inspiration from New York City in the ’80s and ’90s.

“I think the silhouette is appealing to so many groups because of its simplicity. The Gazelles allow people to wear them in any number of ways and they take on the personality of the wearer. They are limitless,” NOAH’s co-founder Brendon Babenzien comments on the launch. “We thought it would be a fun challenge to try to capture the spirit of Gazelles in prints. The idea was to select prints that, like the Gazelles themselves, could defy any sort of specific definition.”

The kicks arrive in two iterations dubbed “Camo” and “Cheetah.” The former is dressed in a vibrant orange hue, with camouflage patterns printed throughout the upper. adidas’ Three Stripe branding is accentuated with a golden “NOAH” print. The kicks are further contrasted with white on the tongue and heel overlay. Keeping consistent with the design theme, “Cheetah” sports faux pony hair material, creating a fuzzy texture in a khaki green shade. The design is rounded off with the Trefoil logo printed in blue on the tongue tag.
