POW! WOW! Hawaii 2015 Recap
Every February, artists from all over the world travel to the island of Oahu for POW! WOW! Hawaii, a street art festival that takes place in the Kaka’ako district of Honolulu. Now in its fifth year, the 2015 edition of POW! WOW! saw 100 street artists, musicians, photographers and media partners from across the globe attend, forming a unique creative community built on the celebration and appreciation of art, music and culture.
While the murals are the centerpiece of the POW! WOW! activities, there’s much more to this festival than paint, markers and aerosol cans. This year featured exhibitions curated by Andrew Hosner of Thinkspace, 1XRun and RVCA x The Seventh Letter; a special 1-2-1 series by Jeff Staple that offered insights into artists’ personal journeys in the pursuit of creating; and other panel discussions which explored the state of the art and music industries both in Hawaii and across the world.
The week culminated with a giant block party, with locals and visitors filling the streets of Kaka’ako to enjoy the sounds of local bands and celebrate the new murals on display. The block party also hosted a special edition of Secret Walls, a live illustration battle between two teams of street art all-stars.
Enjoy the recap images above, and stay tuned for a complete gallery of all the murals from POW! WOW! Hawaii 2015.
