Nike (NYSE:NKE -0.92%) is paying homage to its 25-year history with Baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. by releasing a four-shoe pack inspired by Griffey Jr.’s legacy and on-field feats. The pack’s silhouettes include Griffey’s own Air Griffey Max 1(which is celebrating its 25th anniversary) plus Nike Sportswear standouts like the Air Max 90, Air Force 1 Low and Air VaporMax Plus, each of which spotlights a different piece of or highlight from The Kid’s storied career.
First to the plate is the Air Griffey Max 1. Griffey’s first signature silhouette, it nods to his sweet left handed swing with pops of flair like golden accents on the forefoot Swoosh, a Seattle Mariners-esque teal mudguard, red baseball stitching, a red “Swingman” graphic on the tongue tab, bat-inspired wood grain detailing on the heel and — most directly — a “The Sweetest Swing” text hit on the insoles.
Batting second is the Air Max 90, which uses grin-inducing graphics to salute The Kid’s love of wearing his hat backwards. Griffey’s #24 appears below a backwards Mariners cap on both the tongue tag and the insoles, while a baseball-style stitched seam appears under the collar and a large Swoosh is present on the lateral forefoot. The upper’s base is even made of a white polyester-like material that nods to baseball jerseys.
Hitting third is the low-top Air Force 1, which draws from the time Griffey spent on the field with his father: both took the outfield for the Mariners on August 31, 1990, the first time a father and son ever played together in the big leagues. The left shoe is all about Jr., with his #24 on the lateral heel plus Swooshed “Jr” hits on the insole and heel tab alike. The right shoe is all Sr., with the elder Ken Griffey’s #30 on the heel and Swooshed “Sr” heel and insole hits. Shared details like gold lace deubres, baseball stitching on the rear seam and forefoot Swooshes round things off.
In the cleanup spot is the Air VaporMax Plus. A modernized take on the beloved Air Max Plus that adds a VaporMax cushioning unit, it’s inspired by Griffey Jr.’s legendary “Spiderman” catch from May 25, 1991 in which he flung himself into the wall to catch a deep fly ball. Printed white and black graphic are featured on its synthetic upper, sitting above a jet black VaporMax cushioning unit. There’s also a “24” hit on the insoles surrounded by spider webs, baseball stitch detailing and “Jr” embellishments on the heel tabs.
Look for all four shoes from the Nike Ken Griffey Jr. collection to release on the Nike webstore come June 25. MSRPs range from $110 USD to $210 USD.Jordan Brand‘s Air Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT — a modernized take on the beloved Air Jordan 1 — has been revealed in a new “Team Red” colorway. What sets the CMFT apart from the OG AJ 1 is that seemingly every release boasts material tweaks and experimentations, and “Team Red” is no different: it combines elevated elegance and sporty style in equal measures.
This CMFT’s signature “Team Red” hue, which is more of a burgundy shade than it is a regular red, is used on the rich leather mudguard, collar flaps, heel and eyestays, where it’s connected by circular boot-style laces. Tan suede appears on the toeboxes, quarters and exposed foam tongues, while collars use a dual-layered duo of tan and blue mesh and cut out Swooshes are presented in blue mesh. Further branding is provided by a blue Zoom Air tongue tag and a debossed ball-and-wings logo on the collar flap. Insoles nod to the heel’s Zoom Air cushioning unit, with white midsoles and sport blue outsoles finalizing the look.
Currently, no official release date for the Air Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT has been announced. However, it’ll likely hit Air Jordan stockists later this summer.New Balance‘s 550 has taken the jet fuel produced by its Aimé Leon Dore collaborations and gassed up the silhouette’s slate of in-line release models in 2021, the latest of which to appear is a crisp white and green colorway. Popping up shortly after a white and purple iteration — which, accidental or otherwise, seems to give off some Los Angeles Lakers vs. Boston Celtics vibes when put next to the white and green take — this crisp new model provides plenty of retro basketball flair and a fitting color scheme as New Balance is headquartered in Boston.
The shoe’s upper is made mostly of white leather both smooth and perforated, though white mesh is used around collars and tongues alike and the mudguard is done up in tan suede. Celtic green makes its presence felt on the midfoot’s N logo, the tongue badge, the forefoot’s 550 graphic and other areas. Down below, rubber midsoles feature embossed New Balance branding and green outsoles round off the look.
At the time of writing, a release date for the New Balance 550 in white and green has yet to be officially confirmed by the brand. However, it’s expected to arrive on June 24 with an MSRP of $110 USD.The YEEZY BOOST 350 V2 has been Kanye and adidas (XETRA:ADS.DE -0.64%) ‘ most prolific silhouette to-date, and with no signs of slowing down, the lifestyle offering is gearing up to unpack droves of new colorways to the public this year. The latest version to be unveiled by YEEZY MAFIA is the adidas YEEZY BOOST 350 V2 “MX Oat” which is expected to hit the shelves later this Fall.
Like the previously seen “MX Rock” rendition, this impending installment opts to go for the marbled PrimeKnit upper build. Swirled into its base layer knittings is an amalgamation of fiery orange, blue and yellow accents, making for one of the most wildly styled colorways we’ve seen to this day. The post-dyed monofilament side stripes are tinted with yellow towards the heel and forefoot and sandwich beige-colored knitting in the middle. The pull tab that’s stationed out back and the laces are both dyed with more yellow skins. BOOST-stuffed midsoles are surrounded by the traditional ribbed shell, and this piece is also dripped entirely with a faint yellow tone.
These playful YEEZYS are expected to drop in October 2021 for $220 USD, but adidas has yet to confirm its official launch date. For those who are still recovering from Union‘s “What color is an orange” madness that went down for its initial Air Jordan 4 collaboration, fret not as you’ll soon have a shot and its second batch.
