Charlie Brown was sold by Maddox Gallery to an undisclosed American collector as part of its VIP Preview sale. The piece was first spraypainted by the elusive artist along a Los Angeles wall in 2011. It depicts the popular Peanuts frontman with a cigarette in mouth ready to pour gasoline on the building it is overlaid on.

The sale accompanies the largest exhibit of Banksy works from one gallery at Art Miami, with prices ranging from around $650,0000 USD to over $6.6m USD. According to Decrypt, those who are holders of Hirst’s The Currency collection, which launched earlier this summer in July, were “airdropped” these new NFTs for free. Titled Great Expectations, these NFT collectibles were not available for public sale. Hirst announced in a series of ten Tweets his reason for doing so stating, “Everything done well is art. With Drake’s support and blessing, I’ve created this free Thanksgiving gift for all Currency NFT holders; it’s loosely based on the album cover I made for Drake.”

Each of the 10,000 NFT pieces follows the same grid that depicted the original 12 Emoji-like pregnant women. In Hirst’s NFT collection, the artist has added a new twist, changing the style of the women, varying in color palettes, backgrounds, hair types and adding accessories like handbags and party hats. Some might even find a skull or a flame replacing the face of the women. In a series of tweets Hirst details Great Expectations stating, “Like all great art, it looks easy. [He] wanted it to be pop, high, and low art…be ironic while remaining iconic.”

It comes as no surprise that many of the Great Expectations holders are already eager to flip these free NFTs on OpenSea. As of writing, the cheapest NFT of the set is listed for 1.1 ETH which loosely translates to $4,500 USD. For the full collection of Damien Hirst’s Great Expectations NFTs, check out Heni NFT.
