New Art Book Offers a Behind-The-Scenes Look at the Art Style of 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' AND MORE!!

Sony Pictures Animations has unveiled the official art book of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Authored by Ramin Zahed, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: The Art of the Movie takes a deep dive into the art and artistry of the sequel and features “exclusive concept art, sketches, character designs, and storyboards,” plus interviews with important figures like writers/producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, “who offer insights into their creative process.”

Across the Spider-Verse sees the return of Miles Morales as he teams up with Gwen Stacy and other Spider-People to take on their most powerful villain yet. The sequel opened with $120.5 million USD domestically and logged 2023’s second-largest opening weekend yet, and earned $88.1 million USD from 59 regions at the international box office, totalling to $208.6 million USD.

In related news, Metro Boomin assembled his musical superheroes in the soundtrack album for Across the Spider-Verse.

Metro Boomin has dropped off the highly-anticipated soundtrack album of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Clocking in at approximately 50 minutes, the 13-track project features a myriad of high-profile guest features from the likes of Nas, A$AP Rocky, Wiz Kid, Offset, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Offset, Ei8ht, Beam, Lil Uzi Vert, Toian, Swae Lee, JID, Coi Leray, Nav, Future, James Blake and Don Toliver. The project’s collaborative energy makes for a stellar sonic backdrop for the high-adrenaline superhero film and channels the same energy of the different Spider-Mans sprawling across the film. Both Metro and his collaborators learn to make space for another across the 13 tracks, creating a fun and cohesive record despite the variety of sounds each artist has to offer.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse raked in a massive $120.5 million USD domestic box office debut over the weekend, surpassing expectations and securing the second-largest opening weekend of this year, according to Variety.

The film ranks behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned $146 million USD in its first weekend at the domestic box office. Notably, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earned the third-largest opening weekend in the Spider-Man franchise.

Across the Spider-Verse pulled in an additional $88.1 million USD from 59 regions at the international box office, with China leading the way at $17.3 million USD. Across the world, the film brought in a total of $208.6 million USD.

The movie arrived as the sequel to 2018’s  Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which first introduced the world to Miles Morales. This latest film, directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, follows Morales and Gwen Stacy (Spider-Woman) on a mission to save the Spider People from an evil villain known as the Spot. Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld return as Morales and Stacy respectively, and the remaining voice cast includes Brian Tyree Henry, Issa Rae, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya and Oscar Isaac.

“This is an exceptionally good opening for an animation follow-up sequel,” said David A. Gross, who leads film consulting agency Franchise Entertainment Research, per Variety. “‘Spider-Verse’ took a well-liked superhero, gave the storytelling an original visual style and voice and created a unique experience.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has released two new promo videos over the weekend introducing Pavitr Prabhakar, the Spider-Man of India (Karan Soni), and pregnant Spider-Woman Jessica Drew (Issa Rae) who will both star in the upcoming movie.

Prabhakar is a resident of Mumbattan in Earth-50101, first appearing in the 2004 Spider-Man: India comic book miniseries which follows a similar origin story as Peter Parker. However, instead of being bitten by a spider, he receives his powers from an ancient yogi who tasks him with the mission of saving Mumbattan. Jessica Drew, on the other hand, is celebrated on Mother’s Day as she’s seen out and about fighting villains while expecting. Drew and Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfield) are eventually set to team up in a spinoff movie alongside Spider-hero Silk.

COMIC: 'Chainsaw Man' Graces the Cover of 'Nylon Japan'

Nylon Japan has unveiled its cover stars for its February 2023 issue. For its special edition, the magazine will feature the titular Chainsaw Man on its front cover, whom Nylon Japan describes as the “new generation anti-hero.” Meanwhile his nemesis, Katana Man will grace the inner cover for the Chainsaw Man issue.

As for the regular edition, the cover stars musician Kenshi Yonezu, who wrote and performed Chainsaw Man’s opening theme song “KICK BACK,” alongside Daiki Tsuneta, the frontman of King Gnu and millennium parade. The magazine also features an exclusive interview with the anime’s director, Ryuu Nakayama, and producer Keisuke Seshimo. Other features include detailed interviews with numerous artists who have also produced and performed ending theme songs for the Chainsaw Man anime.

Based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s bestselling manga, the MAPPA-produced anime has had its fair share of mixed reception since its premiere. Despite this, the anime is still very much hyped and widely streamed across networks, ranking second after Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc on MyAnimeList’s Top Airing Anime.

Further news has been revealed on the fate of the late Kentaro Miura’s Berserkmanga. While it was announced earlier this month that Miura’s friend, Kouji Mori, would now be leading the story and that the current Fantasia Arc will end in six more chapters, fans were left waiting on news on when the iconic manga would start back up again.

Now, Animal House has shared news that Berserk is set to resume serialization this Friday, June 24 with Young Animal No. 13. Of the six chapters left in the Fantasia Arc, two will be released in the upcoming issue of Young Animal.

There were early talks that indicated that fans would never know how Kentaro Miura’s Berserk would end. Having been a little over a year since the mangaka’s death, news has been released by Hakusensha, publishers of Young Animal, that the manga will continue.

With a heartfelt letter to fans, the Young Animal Editorial Department apologizes for the lack of news and goes on to announce that Kentaro Miura’s friend, Kouji Mori, will be carrying the Berserk torch as he was in know on how Kentaro Miura saw the story ending, and has a great deal of material left in his possession from Miura. While Berserk will continue without the late Kentaro Miura, the team promises to maintain the quality and storyline that was discussed with Miura, and nothing more. 

Berserk will conclude the current Fantasia Arc in six more chapters where it will then go on to a new arc with the credits updated to: “Original, Kentaro Miura Manga, Studio Iga Supervision, Kouji Mori.” The full announcement can be found over on Hakusensha’s website.Goodsmile Company has just revealed some upcoming projects at the annual One Hobby event. Now on to its 35th installment for 2022, the exhibition pulls in a number of toymakers including Max Factory, TOMYTEC, Miyuki, 52Toys, threezero, Pop Mart, and Goodsmile Company, to name a few.

One upcoming release is catching the attention of Berserk fans — a fully large Berserker’s Armor-clad Guts. The figure shows Guts in full Berserker transformation where the armor — once owned by the Skull Knight — is seen taking over his emotions with his animal-like stance and red eyes.

New 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' Villain Revealed

During their press tour, Sony showcased a 15-minute teaser of their upcoming film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and shared important new details about the highly-anticipated sequel.

The upcoming sequel will continue Miles Morales‘ interdimensional adventure. Since the second film was announced, fans have been speculating who the villain would be for the upcoming sequel. There have been rumors claiming that Miles Morales will be going up against another Spider-Man variant, particularly, Spider-Man 2099. On the other hand, there were rumors about a wackier foe called the Spot, which Sony confirmed was true. The Spot’s superpower allows him to send his body into any dimension he wants. It was revealed that Jason Schwartzman would voice The Spot, who reportedly will be the main villain for both Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and its follow-up.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hits the theatres on June 2, 2023. Part two, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, will be released on the big screen on March 29, 2024

For those looking forward to the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, Sony Pictures recently revealed that the wait for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be longer. Originally set to release October 7 this year, the studio announced ahead of its CinemaCon presentation that the animated film will now be arriving June 2, 2023.

The delay also means that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part II will also be shifted back to March 29, 2024. Both highly anticipated films will be hitting theaters in premium large formats and IMAX with some expected extensive rollouts.

The Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web directed by S.J. Clarkson, starring Sydney Sweeney and Dakota Johnson is also delayed until July 7, 2023. While Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer 3 is now expected to release September 1, 2023.

NEW FILMS:

With all seven episodes of Stranger Things Season Four Part One now live on Netflix, fans are no doubt already looking forward to the remaining episodes in part two of the beloved franchise’s penultimate season, and now a first look at what’s to come has been released via Empire. Depicted above, the new image showcases Millie Bobby Brown‘s Eleven returning to action after her training with Matthew Modine’s Dr. Martin Brenner.

Speaking of what fans can expect of the conclusion for season four, the Duffer Brothers say that the season finale is one of the most complicated projects they’ve ever undertaken, with a massive budget for plenty of FX shots. “The final episode has more FX shots than the entirety of Season 3,” Matt Duffer told the publication.

“There’s an hour-long chunk in the final episode that just doesn’t stop,” Ross Duffer added. “It’s the most complicated thing we’ve ever attempted to do. [It's] all tension and dread, with a run-time that would be long even for a movie. Then – well, everything goes to hell…”

Julia Garner, known for her roles as Ruth Langmore in Ozark and Anna Delvey in Inventing Anna, may be taking on the lead role of Madonna in her upcoming biopic.

According to reports, the 28-year-old actress was offered the role of the pop icon after a “grueling” audition process that needed “a skilled singer and dancer.” Garner supposedly beat the likes of Florence Pugh, Alexa Demie, Odessa Young, Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira, and she and her team are currently “considering and expected to accept the offer.” It has not been confirmed as of writing, however.

The forthcoming biopic will follow Madonna’s early days. Universal Pictures will be the studio in charge while Madonna herself will serve as the director. The Queen of Pop previously shared that she hopes the film will “convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

A Twitter user recently shared a photo of a theater poster that lists the film will be arriving in North American theaters August 19. The theater is currently on display at the AMC Neshaminy 24 theater in Bensalem, Pennsylvania located inside the Neshaminy Mall.

Yoshihiro Togashi’s Yu Yu Hakusho anime will be turning 30 years old in October. Premiered in Japan in 1992, Yu Yu Hakusho has built a cult following throughout the years and its characters have appeared on numerous licensed products with XLARAGE, UNIQLO, and even has an upcoming live-action film in the works. 

To celebrate 30 years, the studio has revealed a 30th-anniversary logo as well as hinted at upcoming celebratory releases, with the earliest unveiling taking place on June 10, 6:00 p.m. JST in the form of a commemorative illustration.The third installment of Deadpool will become the first film ever produced in the franchise after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. Fans have raised concerns as working with Disney might result in the movie having a Disney filter, however, the screenwriters have claimed otherwise.

Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are currently working on the script for Deadpool 3, this time having the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe to play with. In a recent interview with Den of Geek, the duo eased the worried fans, claiming that “Deadpool is gonna be Deadpool.” The screenwriters assured fans that the movie would not be “Disney-fied” but R-rated, marking it the first-ever R-rated movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ”Oh, absolutely. They’re not gonna mess with the tone,” Reese said. “I mean, I’d never say never, I guess there’s an outside chance, but we’ve always been told it can be R-[rated] and we’re proceeding as if it’s R. We would like it to be R, we always have, so I don’t think that’ll change.”

The duo wrote the first and second installments of the franchise but was initially planned not to make the third one. However, they were brought back after Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin penned an initial draft. The film was originally set for a November 2022 release, but filming is yet to begin.The first stages in the making of the Joker sequel are underway. Teased by director Todd Phillips along with Joaquin Phoenix in an Instagram post, Phillips revealed the title along with Phoenix reading over the script. 

Titled Joker: Folie a Deux, the naming is pretty clever as it both means shared psychotic disorder in medical terms, which is ultimately what happens to the citizens of Gotham when the Joker is manifested, and the “Deux” on its own is “Two,” indicating the second film. Another detail revealed in the script shows that the draft was just recently finalized last month on May 18.
