COMIC: 'Chainsaw Man' Graces the Cover of 'Nylon Japan'

Nylon Japan 'Chainsaw Man' Issue News InfoNylon Japan 'Chainsaw Man' Issue News Info

Nylon Japan has unveiled its cover stars for its February 2023 issue. For its special edition, the magazine will feature the titular Chainsaw Man on its front cover, whom Nylon Japan describes as the “new generation anti-hero.” Meanwhile his nemesis, Katana Man will grace the inner cover for the Chainsaw Man issue.

As for the regular edition, the cover stars musician Kenshi Yonezu, who wrote and performed Chainsaw Man’s opening theme song “KICK BACK,” alongside Daiki Tsuneta, the frontman of King Gnu and millennium parade. The magazine also features an exclusive interview with the anime’s director, Ryuu Nakayama, and producer Keisuke Seshimo. Other features include detailed interviews with numerous artists who have also produced and performed ending theme songs for the Chainsaw Man anime.

Based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s bestselling manga, the MAPPA-produced anime has had its fair share of mixed reception since its premiere. Despite this, the anime is still very much hyped and widely streamed across networks, ranking second after Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc on MyAnimeList’s Top Airing Anime.

Both the regular and special editions of Nylon Japan’s February 2023 issue will be available to purchase starting December 26. For more information, head to Nylon Japan’s website.

NEW YORK HONORS ANDRÉ LEON TALLEY WITH DEDICATED STREET IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY

Andre Leon Talley Day New York Street Westchester County Ceremony Info

André Leon Talley, the former creative director and American editor-at-large of Vogue who died in January this year, is being honored by the town of Greenburgh, New York with a street named after the late journalist in Westchester County.

A dedication ceremony will take place, unveiling the street sign at the corner of Worthington Road and Saw Mill Road, while Wednesday will be declared André Leon Talley Day. A reception will follow at Talley’s favorite local restaurant City Limits Diner where his favorite menu will be served, with attendance from names such as Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs and more.

“This is a recognition that André’s impact was not just global. It was local as well. It’s nice that his local community is recognizing him in this fashion. It will stand as a reminder of his life for a long time to come,” Talley’s former attorney Erik Weinick told WWD. “It is such a victory. The idea that he was afraid to be evicted and now the street bears his name in less than a year. How amazing is that? Obviously, I had nothing to do with it but nothing could make me happier. Nothing. It was such a vengeance,” von Furstenberg added, referring to when Talley was involved in a legal battlefor his $1 million USD home in White Plains.

The unveiling of the André Leon Talley Street sign will take place at 10 a.m. on September 21.

ARTS & MAGS:

nitesha japanese bookshop provoke photography magazine reprint three volumes release date info photos price store list buying guidenitesha japanese bookshop provoke photography magazine reprint three volumes release date info photos price store list buying guideJapanese bookshop NITESHA is set to reprint all three volumes of Provoke, an influential Japanese photography magazine from the late ’60s. Provoke was last put to print in 2018 to celebrate its 50th anniversary, and in 2016 it was the subject of an extensive photography exhibition dubbed “Provoke: Between Protest and Performance Photography in Japan 1960-1975” that debuted in Austria before heading to Switzerland, France and the United States.

Originally conceptualized by photographer Takuma Nakahira and art critic Koji Taka, then bolstered by the arrival of now-legendary photographer Daido Moriyama during the second issue, Provoke was a dojin-shi (self-published magazine). Although it only lasted three issues and one comprehensive overview volume dubbed “First, Abandon the World of Pseudo-Certainty,” Provoke boasted an influential art style centered around rough-hewn, grainy and often out of focus photography — initially ridiculed, then later upheld as innovative and forward-thinking. Its photos, essays and more addressed the political and cultural upheaval of the late ‘60, both in Japan and around the rest of the world.

Original copies of Provoke are extremely rare but NITESHA possesses a full set, and is using it to produce a re-printed iteration that hews to the traditions of the original. This detailed replication is important to the bookstore, who provided the following statement on its website.

We were fortunate to be able to purchase all three volumes of Provoke. Rather than merely putting them back in the market again for profits, we have decided to make a reprint of these extremely rare and inaccessible issues that are currently only owned by a limited number of connoisseurs. Striving to stay close to the original publications as much as possible, we are making this reprint available to many [at] a reasonable price and [are] highly looking forward to seeing how today’s society will respond to the work.

A complete reprint of all three Provoke volumes — accompanied by English and Chinese translation booklets — can be pre-ordered now via the NITESHA webstore, with delivery to commence in early November. The MSRP before shipping costs is set at ¥8,800 JPY (approximately $84 USD).OVO x BAPE Collaboration Teaser Drake A A Bathing Ape October's Very Own Japan A look at an upcoming collaboration between October’s Very Own and BAPE has just surfaced in a Japanese magazine. ENTERTAINMENT: First 'TIME 100 Next' List Honors Kerby Jean-Raymond, Lil Nas X, Zion Williamson & More

Time 100 Next List Features Rising Stars Info politics fashion music entertainment activists Kerby Jean-Raymond desus mero bad bunny coco gauff zion williamson nba tennis ricky martin Shaquille O’Neal billy ray cyrus
TIME Magazine just launched the first edition of its TIME 100 Next list, which expands upon the iconic TIME 100 list to honor rising stars who are shaping the future of various industries, including entertainment, sports and health. Honorees on the list include Pyer Moss founder Kerby Jean-Raymond, late-night-television stars Desus and Mero, “Old Town Road” musician Lil Nas X, NBA player Zion Williamson, rising tennis star and recent HYPEBEAST digital cover star Coco Gauff, singer Bad Bunny and more.

“When we first published our TIME 100 list of the world’s most influential people 15 years ago, it was dominated by individuals who rose through traditional power structures,” says TIME Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal. “What has been striking about more recent editions is the growing number of individuals who did not need an establishment to command international attention. TIME has always been a barometer of influence — and the nature of influence is changing.”

For each member of the list, TIME selected a guest contributor to write about their accomplishments. Some of the pairings are to be expected, like women’s tennis icon Billie Jean King writing about Coco Gauff, while others draw even more attention as to why the honoree was selected. Case in point, when Billy Ray Cyrus was asked to write about collaborator Lil Nas X, he highlighted the duo’s pairing and how it crossed genre boundaries. “I told Nas he was going to be a light in this world and he would shine brighter than anyone else. And he has,” Cyrus wrote. “He’s brought everyone together, from all musical genres and generations.”

Other notable pairings include Shaquille O’Neal on Zion Williamson and Ricky Martin on Bad Bunny. “What means the most to him is playing hard for his teammates and coaches, setting a good example through his actions and making his family proud,” says O’Neal. “No matter what happens when he joins his teammates on the court, I know these guiding principles will serve him well down the line.” Martin praised Bad Bunny for his captivating stage presence and dedication to Puerto Rico. “[Bad Bunny] is a true musician who speaks the language of the youth, and fans pay attention,” he wrote. “I truly admire his commitment to help bring awareness to topics affecting not only our island, but the world.”
NFL Arranges Private Workout for Colin Kaepernick football san Fransico 49ers Atlanta
The NFL will be holding a private workout for former San Francisco 49ers quaterback and social activist Colin Kaepernick, reports ESPN.
Set to take place this Saturday in Atlanta, the session will include on-field work and an interview for the current free-agent quarterback. All NFL teams have been invited to attend, and for those who can’t make it, a video of both the workout and interview will be made available. According to ESPN‘s Dan Graziano, the workout was set up in response to a statement by Kaepernick’s representatives sent October 10 saying they had received “little to no response” from all 32 NFL teams regarding his return to the league. The session will also allow clubs to view for themselves Kaepernick’s current football readiness.
Kaepernick has not played in the NLF since 2016 when he pioneered the “Take a Knee” stance, a gesture used during the playing of the U.S. national anthem to protest against police brutality and racial inequality. This protest then swept through the NFL on September 24, 2017 when over 200 players knelt on one knee in a show of defiance against President Donald Trump, who called for owners to fire their protesting players.
In the memo obtained by ESPN, the league said: “Earlier this year, we discussed some possible steps with his representatives and they recently emphasized his level of preparation and that he is ready to work out for clubs and be interviewed by them. We have therefore arranged this opportunity for him to work out, and for all clubs to have the opportunity to evaluate his current readiness and level of interest in resuming his NFL career.”
Head over to ESPN for more details.
