March 26, 1987 marked a revolution in running footwear with the release of the original Tinker Hatfield-designed Nike Air Max 1 – the very first piece of footwear to feature a visible Air window and a precursor for future designs like the Air Max Light, BW, Air Max 90, 93, 95, 97, 360, and even the Air Max Lunar90. In celebration of nearly three decades of “Air superiority,” Nike is set to commemorate March 26 as “Air Max Day,” encouraging fans to rock their favorite Air Max shoes and share the experience with the world via social media and the #AIRMAX hashtag. “Air Max Day” will ultimately culminate with the release of a special edition Air Max 1: a design that sees the classic “University Red” colorway updated with a Volt color treatment and a 3.26-emblazoned tongue. The premium QuickStrike is now available to pre-order at Nike.com for $125 USD and is set to ship March 22 so you can have them in time for the Swoosh-sanctioned holiday.
