For watch enthusiasts, OMEGA‘s Speedmaster has always held a very special position within both their hearts and their collections given its incredible history as the world’s first watch to ever grace the surface of the Moon, but just because its pedigree goes back half a century doesn’t mean it can’t continue to grow and improve, and now OMEGA has done just that for the ultra-iconic Moonwatch, elevating it with Master Chronometer certification for the first time in the model’s history.

While the new generation of the Speedmaster carries design elements inspired by the original ones worn by Apollo 11 astronauts on the Moon back in 1969 such as the asymmetrical case, the step dial and the double bevel caseback, the highlight of the new timepiece is no doubt the movement. Powering the watch now is the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, resistant to extreme magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss. The certification also represents “the highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic-resistance in the Swiss watch industry.”

“When updating a sacred timepiece like the Speedmaster Moonwatch, every detail must be true to its original spirit,” said OMEGA’s president and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann. “This chronograph is recognized the world over, so we’ve approached its design with the most sincere respect while taking its movement to the next level.”

For those interested, the updated Speedmaster Moonwatch will be available shortly at OMEGA in two crystal variations: hesalite and sapphire. The former will retail for CHF 5,800 (approx. $6,613 USD) while the latter will go for CHF 6,300 (approx. $7,184 USD).Revisiting one of the fan-favorites in its massive inventory of robust watches, G-SHOCK is now kickstarting 2021 with a vibrant, fiery red edition of its Full Metal 5000line.

The reflective red hue of the upcoming GMW-B5000RD-4JF was achieved using an ion-playing Bordeau IP finish, applied uniformly on both the stainless steel case as well as the linked bracelet. The dial itself comes in black to provide a striking contrast with the rest of the watch, while a dark shaded ring surrounds the watch face for a seamless transitioning of the tones.

Of course, as a G-SHOCK, it features all the standard tech and gadgets that give the brand its utilitarian reputation. Aside from being shock-proof, the watch boasts solar-charging for its 10-hour battery life, carries a multi-function alarm, an illuminating backlight, and even Bluetooth connectivity to your smartphone to sync your times with the Internet.

For those interested, the new red Full Metal 5000 will be available over on G-SHOCK’s Japanese website sometime this month, retailing for ¥70,000 JPY ($680 USD).Following a successful collaboration between Naval Watch Company and LOWERCASE on a series of military-inspired watches, the two brands have reunited once again for another vintage-styled timepiece, this time inviting a third brand — MOUT RECON TAILOR — for the limited edition project.

Based on the dive-bezelled model of their previous collaboration, the upcoming watch features the same matte-finished stainless steel case and black aluminium dive bezel surrounding a utilitarian dial of the same tone. Instead of the more minimal bar indices of its predecessor,  the current model opts for Roman numerals with smaller 24-hour markings on the inner circle, harkening to the Vietnam War-era timepieces crafted by the likes of Hamilton or Benrus.  Completing the militaristic look is a black bund strap crafted with bridle leather sourced from UK’s Sedgwick & Co, a black nylon NATO strap, a reliable quartz movement, and a water resistance of five bar.

Scheduled for release sometime in mid 2021, Naval Watch Company and MOUT RECON TAILOR’s collaborative timepiece is now available for pre-orders over on ARK nets for ¥64,350 JPY (roughly $625 USD).UNDEFEATED has followed up its recent Nike Air Max 97 and Modello Modello Uno Diving Watch collaborations by revealing a new friends and family release. For the new arrival, UNDEFEATED has partnered with Tudor to create a limited-edition take on the Black Bay model.

Limited to just 50 units, the classic Black Bay watch has been finished with a number of UNDEFEATED design touches. The stand-out feature is the label’s “Five Strike” logo in white, which contrasts against the watch’s black dial and dark blue bezel.

UNDEFEATED’s unexpected Tudor collaboration is limited to just 50 units, each of which will be given to select UNDEFEATED team members and friends of the brand, complete with a unique serial number and the recipient’s name on the back.Timex has built on its recent military-inspired collection with Nigel Cabourn by reviving its classic Expedition Atlantis model for a capsule dubbed Nuptse. 

Drawing inspiration from the technical clothing traditionally worn by climbers, explorers, mountain rescue and forest services, Timex Japan has dressed its classic digital model in an array of outdoors-inspired hues and classic color combinations.

Each 40mm retains classic Timex characteristics like its signature backlight and 330ft water resistance, as well as the date, time and a super-durable resin strap.
