THROUGH THE LENS: Ja Tecson DOPE PHOTOS!!!
“Staying hungry is an exciting part of the process for me, because you can learn a lot about yourself when self-doubt lingers inside the mind. When you find that spark to turn a negative into a positive, innovation starts to happen.” says photographer Ja Tecson. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Tecson’s journey in life continues to be a reference point throughout his career behind the lens, continuously adding to his impressive portfolio that draws heavily from LA’s diverse subculture and its creative energy. Growing up in the ’90s — a time synonymous to Michael Jordan’s heyday on court, hip-hop and graffiti — in a household where his father, a photographer and musician, and mother a pianist, Tecson developed a unique style that’s garnered him work for the likes of Nike, Stussy, Staple, PUMA, In4mation and Urban Outfitters. Tecson’s meticulous eye for capturing the “moment” is seen through the array of examples presented in our latest THROUGH THE LENS, whereby the carefree spirit of California lingers amid the authentic, street-styled portraits. The images presented come as a tribute to his love for sportswear and streetwear, a blend of personal and commissioned work both past and present. Tecson is set to give a talk for Apple’s iPhone Photography Masterclass titled “Reimagine the Snapshot” on November 19 in Los Angeles, followed by an exhibition with long term collaborators In4mation in December.
