VSCO's "New Wave of Hip-Hop" Editorial Profiles Goldlink and Rick Rubin / Tyler, The Creator Is Launching an Internet TV Channel
Rick Rubin and his Shangri La Studios have become a mecca of sorts, as mystical and wondrous a place as its owner. Rubin himself is a seminal figure in hip-hop, nay, music history, having notoriously produced albums for everyone from JAY Z to Adele, the Beastie Boys to Slayer – artists that have each ignored their respective genres and forged a new soundscape for pop music. Accordingly, a visit to Shangri La means business. VSCO was on hand to capture DMV representative Goldlink as he visited Rubin in Malibu, where the two exchanged ideas, beats and of particular note, tracks. The photo set marks a neat moment for all involved – VSCO and the importance of photography; Goldlink and imminent opportunity; Rubin helping popularize talent – duly immortalizing the sense of focus of the work. Enjoy the photo set above and check out VSCO’s full story on their site.
Never far from creative endeavors, Tyler, The Creator will be expanding his foray onto Internet television, a realm he’s long been associated with. During the recent Code/Media conference in Las Vegas, the Odd Future frontman announced that he would be teaming up with Lloyd Braun of Santa Monica-based company Whalerock Industries to create a new Internet TV Channel. Having work with Cartoon Network and Sony in the past, the new project looks to draw audiences over from services such as Netfix and Hulu, winning subscribers based on its original content. Eliminating the “middle man” in this ambitious undertaking, Tyler’s charisma might just be what sets his platform apart from the rest.
