The current king of footwear must make room for the new queen, as Rihanna has dethroned Kanye West for 2016′s Shoe of the Year crown. Following Ye’s enshrinement in 2015, Rihanna’s PUMA Creeper silhouette will be honored by Footwear News as it has made a major impact in retail sales, social media impact and consumer feedback.
Joining a class of silhouettes such as the adidas Stan Smith and Yeezy Boost 350, the PUMA Creeper has been seen on the feet of notable names such as Gigi and Bella Hadid, The Weeknd, Cara Delevingne and many more since its debut. Accompanied by additional models such as trainers and the ever-so-popular faux fur slides, it’s safe to say that Rihanna’s strong influence alongside PUMA is far from a one-hit wonder. RiRi expressed her excitement in stating “In my wildest dreams, I never would have imagined an honor like Shoe of the Year. It means so much to me to make a mark like this in the shoe and sneaker industry and to have so many people share my love for the Creeper.”
Rihanna’s Fenty PUMA Creeper will be presented with the official 2016 Shoe of the Year award at Footwear News’ 30th annual Achievement Awards in New York on November 29.
