The
Gucci menswear collection takes inspiration from fairytale creatures for 2017 Pre-Fall. While the Italian luxury brand continues to hold
alien model screenings and still references some of the rock-n-roll vibes from
2017 spring/summer, for his latest collection, Creative Head
Alessandro Michele imagines exaggerated floral patterns and exotic prints that weave a whimsical fairytale fantasy through embroidered tigers, dragons, and outer space imagery.
The new Gucci collection blends American prep and bohemian styles in embellished pieces. The lineup includes a quilted silk bomber with an all-over tiger print seen layered on top of a fuchsia hoody. Paired with tapered denim adorned with ‘L’Aveugle Par Amour’ which translates to ‘Blind For Love,’ the lettering reps one of the collection’s on-going themes carried over from the
2017 Gucci Cruise collection. Michele also drops an unexpected spin on dandy style tailoring using streetwear sensibility — a wide lapel herringbone coat with embroidered dragons which invokes a youthful, sartorial look.
Photographed in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, the location of the latest Gucci shoot uses graffiti and the concrete bowl of the skate park to exhibit the enthusiastic energy of the collection. Details like gothic-style lettering, animal embroidery accents, and even the sporty-luxe hoodies and shorts themselves, reinforce the collection’s summertime vibe when juxtaposed against the pastel hues of the park.
