Complex has dropped a new documentary that explores the connection between Ralph Lauren and hip-hop. Titled Horse Power: Hip-Hop’s Impact on Polo Ralph Lauren, the video features appearances and commentary from Big Boi, Raekwon, Tyson Beckford, Just Blaze, 2 Chainz, A$AP Ferg, Dapper Dan, Retch, Thirstin Howl the 3rd and some of the other original Lo-Life crew members and more. “ Rounding out the presentation: a soundtrack cooked up by Thelonious Martin.
“Our culture is based on taking things that aren’t meant for us or weren’t intended for us and making it ours,” Just Blaze explains. As one of the piece’s other subjects puts it: “Polo is a great sort of metaphor for the American Dream … this is what the American Dream wears.”

It was recently announced that Bury Me With The Lo On – Victory Journal‘s book exploring how a group of kids from 1980s-era Brooklyn influenced mainstream hip-hop and shaped a movement of Polo Ralph Lauren fans — was getting a re-release.
The book, which sold out in just three days last time, features never-before-seen archival photos, new portraits and added insights that are exclusive to the release.
To celebrate the recent drop, the book’s creators, photographer Tom Gould and Lo Life founder/rapper Thirstin’ Howl the 3rd, have unveiled an archival documentary featuring previously unreleased Lo Life footage from the late ’80s/early ’90s. Watch the documentary above and pre-order the re-released book now.
