The late and legendary street artist Richard Hambleton will be the subject of a monumental exhibition to be held in London’s Leake Street Arches space. Entitled “Richard Hambleton: Shadowman,” the momentous showcase will present over 60 original artworks and intimate photographs. Hambleton is often credited as the “godfather of street art,” leading the street art movement in the ’80s and having worked alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring throughout the 1980s.
The exhibition will feature a slew of influential works including the artist’s Shadowman canvas paintings and a selection of his Marlboro rodeo horse silhouettes. Moreover, the show will also display archival photos of Hambleton’s murals across the street of New York taken by photographer, Hank O’Neal.
“Richard Hambleton: Shadowman” will commence on September 13 at Leake Street Arches. Maddox Gallery will also showcase limited edition prints on September 18. Peruse the images above and let us know your thoughts. Elsewhere, take a look at this week’s best art drops.
