Following a teaser, KAWS returns with a full look and official release details for his anticipated ‘GONE’ Companion vinyl figure. The collectible statuette takes inspiration from a large-scale sculpture of the same name, portraying his ubiquitous Companion character carrying his ‘BFF’ mascot in an all-black colorway with white detailing to boot.
The figure will release on the occasion of his exhibition entitled “COMPANIONSHIP IN THE AGE OF LONELINESS” at National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne on September 20th.
Following his ‘CAPO’ Carrara marble skull edition, interdisciplinary artist Jun Cha now unveils the second installment with a new set of casts. Aptly entitled ‘CAPO II,’ the latest offering is comprised of bronze, stainless steel, and polished bronze variants. Altogether the series expands upon the artist’s examination of the memento mori inspired by the Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius.
“Despite death as an inevitable law of Nature, embracing your mortality maintains sharp focus to live in the present and gratitude for all the things we take for granted. ‘CAPO II’ is another reminder to live each day as if it were your last,” said the artist.
Each sculpture measures 6.4” x 8” x 7” and weighs roughly 13 pounds apiece. The casts are available to preorder on Jun Cha’s website for $2,000 USD each. The signed and numbered edition will be available starting September 3 at 10 a.m. PDT.
Following the release of colorful and all-pink sculptures of Bart Simpson, the Chicago-based artist Louis De Guzman returns with a blue edition. Although the artist launched his first-ever vinyl sculpture just a year ago, its popularity has allowed for the cartoon character’s third release.
Louis De Guzman announced on Instagram that he will be releasing the remaining editions of the blue Elevate sculpture, originally shown at Chicago’s ComplexCon in limited quantities. The pop icon from The Simpsons is transformed into an 8-inch vinyl sculpture created in a geometric abstraction style. Louis De Guzman’s screen prints that contain intricate line work and pattern sequence shapes are translated into a three-dimensional form of a familiar image that can “ultimately evoke emotion and personal attachment.”
The blue edition of Elevate will be released in an edition of 500 pieces on Louis De Guzman’s website this Friday, August 23 at 1 p.m. EST.
