To celebrate the 35th-anniversary of the iconic GR Supra nameplate (formerly known as the Celica Supra), LEGO has now taken it a step further, assembling a 1:1 life-size model of the car consisting of 477,303 LEGO blocks and weighing in at 4,156 pounds (1,640 kilograms).

In addition to blocks, the car incorporates a steering wheel, tires, driving seat, car factory logo, headlights, and other components. Although it won’t be running the GR Supra’s turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, the LEGO replica is drivable, with an electric engine installed capable of reaching a top speed of 17 miles per hour (28 kilometers per hour).

The life-sized LEGO Supra will be on display at LEGOLAND Japan up until October 11. Afterward, it’s reported the LEGO sports car will be exhibited at the Japanese Super GT racing series.

The life-sized build is millimeter-perfect, and the numbers are truly staggering. Over 400,000 LEGO Technic pieces have been used in the creation of this model, which comprises 154 different types of LEGO Technic elements and 20 that were molded exclusively for the car.

From development to build, the LEGO team spent 8,660 hours meticulously planning the Sián’s outcome. The result is nothing short of astonishing, as it is about as perfect as a LEGO version could be — no detail has been spared whatsoever. It’s 4,980 mm long, 2,101mm wide and 1,133mm high, weighs 2,200kg, and features real-life details such as a first-of-a-kind paintbrush-effect coating applied by Lamborghini’s official car painter.

Inside, everything is built brick-by-brick, from the Lamborghini and Italian flag-wearing steering wheel to the intricate dashboard and even the racing seats. Lena Dixen, Senior Vice President of Product and Marketing at the LEGO Group said: “Our designers love a challenge, so you can imagine their delight when we tasked them to think slightly larger than normal with this model. They jumped at the chance of teaming up with our amazing designers and engineers from our model production workshop at the Kladno factory in the Czech Republic who build these impressive life-size models, and really pushing the boundaries of what can be done with LEGO Technic. The creativity that the system allows meant it was possible to really do justice to the exceptional design of the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37.”

Rounding out the creative effort is LEGO Technic’s virtual simulator, which puts you in the driver’s seat of the model life-size Sián. Heading East, LEGO has recreated Toyota GR Supra. The LEGO replica captures a lot of the actual Japanese sports car’s details given its limitations of being built out of toy bricks. Details like realistic packaging, a minifigure with an accurate Toyota race suit and helmet, a two-seater cockpit, wheel covers, and logo decals help tie the whole build together.

Made from 299 pieces, the LEGO Toyota GR Supra Speed Champions set is priced at ¥2,780 JPY (approximately $25 USD) and can he found now over at LEGO Japan.
