The car itself is based on the Defender X-Dynamic SE, which is powered by a six-cylinder engine pushing out 395 horsepower. Aside from being dressed in the ultra-iconic yellow shade of the Camel Trophy vehicles, the special edition receives a vintage-styled logo on both doors and a black trim package to offer a sleek dash of contrast. To prepare you for the wilderness, Land Rover has also equipped the car with a new front bumper, a skid plate, an expedition roof platform, a ladder to access it, mud flaps to keep things relatively clean along with rubber floor mats on the interior, a winch installation kit, a tow hitch and an air compressor.
Other standard features from its base model include an air suspension system, an electronically locking rear differential, heavily treaded tires for off-roading, off-road cruise control, terrain management, as well as a heated windshield, steering wheel, washer nozzles and headlight washers.
Limited to just 220 examples made, the 2022 Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition will start at $91,350 USD, which includes a two-person entry into the U.S. Trophy Competition, a contest similar to the original Camel version.RM Sotheby’s is now offering up for auction a motocross bike owned by the legendary Steve McQueen himself.
Coming in the form of a vintage 1968 Husqvarna Viking 360, the motorcycle was first piloted by Swedish two-time FIA motocross champion Bengt Åberg. Witnessing racer’s prowess during a race in Santa Cruz, McQueen was so impressed that his production company Solar Productions of Los Angeles immediately made an offer for the bike.
Åberg went on to finish the remainder of his season on another motorcycle before taking two world titles with another Husqvarna in 1969 and 1970, while McQueen took ownership of the 1968 model on February 18, 1969.
While kept in great condition, McQueen’s Viking 360 nonetheless underwent a restoration that took 14 months to carry out, making welcome repairs to components such as its single-cylinder, two-stroke engine as well as its four-speed gearbox.
Auction for the bike will take place on August 13, where it’s expected to fetch up to $100,000 USD. But with the advent of more environmentally-conscious travelers, people such as French designer, Thierry Gaugain, aim to breathe life back into the industry.
Dubbed the “G-Train,” an extremely lucky and wealthy person can pay $350,000,000 USD to get a private 1,300 foot smart train — comprising of 14 sleek cars that feature a state-of-the-art glass exterior that can change from opaque to transparent and a whole range of colors, depending on the environment. Additionally, the train will come with an owners suite, nearly 20 guest rooms, gym, spa and a range of luxurious offerings that reflect its title as the ‘palace on rails.’
To create such a feat, Gaugain has enlisted some of the top experts in their field, such as Swiss train builder Stadler and British engineering firm Eckersley O’Callaghan — to ensure the project can comply on tracks across the world. Speaking on the matter, Gaugain states trains “will become more and more a vehicle for the future. And what we have in mind with this train is to make a vehicle for the future. A marriage of extreme luxury and the best technology.”
Gaugain is generally known for his work on superyachts, such as Venus, a 262-foot vessel, co-designed with Philippe Starck for the late-Steve Jobs.
The “G-Train” is currently in the conceptual phase but Gaugain is hopeful as he gets the interest of travelers and investors around the world.
