Ewing Athletics takes it all the way back to 1990 and that year’s NBA All-Star Game in Miami for the latest edition of the Ewing 33 Hi. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the silhouette — Patrick Ewing was the Eastern Conference ALl-Stars’ starting center that year and chose the occasion to debut the 33 Hi on the hardwood for the very first time — the “All-Star” edition comes decked out in teal and polka-dotted suede and features a contrasting white midsole, icy outsole and bright red accents throughout. Expect the kicks to hit select Ewing stockists in limited quantities in time for this year’s All-Star festivities in the Big Apple this February.
After dropping a collection of kicks that takes cues from the famed artist’s work, Converse is back with its latest piece of Andy Warhol-inspired footwear: a faithful recreation of Warhol’s custom Chucks. The original shoes — which now reside as a part of the permanent collection at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — were done up by Warhol in the mid-’80s as he returned to the newspaper advertisements that informed his earlier work, incorporating contemporaneous ads and commercial illustrations as part of a creative renaissance. Utilizing a pair of his own sneakers as a canvas, Warhol applied a variety of hand-screened graphics that he was working with at the time in conjunction with various paintings, prints, and drawings — highlighting everything from motorcycles to Cold War maps of the era.
A near perfect reproduction of the original, the specially-decorated Chuck Taylor All Star ’70 celebrates self-expression and Warhol’s legacy and will be limited to just 200 total pairs. Look for the kicks to be available exclusively in North America at select Converse stores this Saturday, January 31 for $150 USD.
