The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Gets a Full Ceramic Case
Audemars Piguet’s new yellow gold version of the Royal Oak Ultra-Thin is gorgeous, but its not even the Swiss watchmaker’s best timepiece to surface today. That distinction goes instead to what HODINKEE founder Ben Clymer is calling “the hottest watch of SIHH 2017″: the latest take on the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar. Not only does the watch sport a matte black brushed ceramic case, but it comes with a matching bracelet, too. According to Audemars, the case required over 600 hours of research to develop while each bracelet takes thirty hours to machine, polish, hand-finish and assemble — five times as long as the process takes for a steel version of the Royal Oak. Best of all, though? The brushed ceramic is not only nearly impossible to scratch, but is resistant to high temperatures, age and shocks. As far as additional details go, the timepiece features the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar’s usual caliber 5134 while the “Grande Tapisserie” dial comes in slate grey with black registers.

As a nod to the accompanying G-SHOCK DW-5600 timepiece, the numbers “05600″ are stitched under the visor, which reads “00950″ when reversed to represent the 9FIFTY cap.
Meanwhile, the special edition black G-SHOCK DW-5600NEWERA delivers G-SHOCK’s renowned rugged construction. Shock-resistant and water-resistant to 200 meters, the watch is also equipped with an electro-luminescent backlight with afterglow display, an alarm, world time, and auto-calendar functions. The New Era logo is emblazoned on the light grey watch face, embossed on the stainless steel watch back, as well as making an appearance on the black resin watchband, marking the unique provenance of this collector’s piece.
Accompanying this collection is a specially molded, crush-proof New Era cap carrier made from black polyester knit that carries up to two caps, and features multiple eyelets for ventilation, a removable shoulder strap, and double-zip closure.
