Fashion designer and icon Marc Jacobs is teaming up with Sotheby’s New York to auction off his impressive art collection, coinciding the sale of his New York apartment. Since buying his first piece in 2000, Jacobs has managed to accumulate over 100 pieces of artworks, including the Jeff Koons‘”Yorkshire Terriers” and Basquiat‘s “Soothsayer,” ater having been initially “really intimidated by the world of art.”
The most expensive piece in Marc Jacobs’ collection is estimated to be worth around $3 million USD, and the entire collection holds great financial and emotional value to the designer. “Although it will be difficult to part with it [the art collection], I think it’s time for me to give myself the opportunity to start from scratch again,” said Jacobs in an interview with Sotheby’s.
