Montreal’s Saint-Laurent Boulevard is heating up with dynamic art-related activities due to the latest MURAL Festival 2022 edition. Since 2013, organizers behind the festival have invited hundreds of local and international artists to make their visual imprint along the facade of buildings that line up the boulevards coupled with workshops, exhibitions and installations that are made accessible to the public.
This year, MURAL Festival has brought 21 visual artists to create towering public art compositions as they use Saint-Laurent Boulevard as their canvas. Participating artists include Shepard Fairey, Caratoes, Burnt Toast, Vexx, Mando Marie, Hatecopy, among many others. Coinciding with the visual art portion is a pillar in this year’s edition that is dedicated to augmented reality in the form of two exhibitions across the city’s most beloved parks: Parc du Portugal and Parc des Amériques. In each park, you’ll find life-size works of art by local artists Cryote, Waxhead and Samuel Arsenault-Brassard.
Those interested in partaking in the shows will need to download the MURAL Festival app on their phone and head out to the parks to witness the works of digital art that are up to 12-feet tall. “This exhibition format allows for an entirely immersive, contemplative experience, like taking a journey into the future of urban art,” said MURAL in a statement.
Apart from public art and immersive experiences, MURAL has invited 25 musical performers to its main stage on Saint-Laurent Boulevard. The star-studded list includes Lil Yachty, Skepta, Ayra Starr, Nardo Wick, A-Trak and many more. Rounding up this year’s features is a new merchant market in which the festival gathers artisans and merchants from all disciplines to participate in its Mural Market. “It’s an opportunity for entrepreneurs to meet the public and share their products and creations with visitors. Spread over on more than a kilometer, this street market is a real meeting place for ideas and creativity,” as per a statement.
Festivities are ongoing through June 19. Head to MURAL Festival’s website for more information.
