IWC Responds to John Mayer's Open Letter
In response to the singer-songwriter’s heartfelt letter (seen here) that saw him express his concerns about the brand’s current position, eluding to the change of hands with the Richemont Group, as well as the Ingenieur model changing an aesthetic and heritage that he fell in love with as an avid collector, Swiss watchmaker International Watch Company — also known as IWC Schaffhausen – has seemingly taken Mr. Mayer’s comments onboard, while also shedding light and adding context to his commentary. Interestingly, the company revealed a loss in its manufacturing capacity and technical knowledge over the years, which it is actively trying to rebuild, and furthermore explained issues raised by Mr. Mayer and why certain decisions were made in order to adapt to the dynamic luxury watchmaking industry. In addition, the watchmaker extended an invitation to Mr. Mayer to attend the pretigious SIHH 2015 exhibition in Geneva on Tuesday, January 20, which will hopefully lead to the continuation of this constructive conversation that has the potential to positively impact the future of the brand.
