Mercedes-Benz looks toward the past for their Fall/Winter 2015 fashion campaign featuring one of the most exciting and experimental cars of the ’60s and ’70s. We first spotted the resurgence of the C111 just a few weeks ago in “A Fistful of Wolves” and now we look past the satire of the short film to focus in on the car’s details. Shot at Berlin’s confusingly titled Haus der Kulturen der Welt, or House of World Cultures, the experimental vehicle broke new ground when it was first introduced in 1969 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. Set against the Hugh Stubbins-designed building, the car’s bold and expressive design successfully illustrates the German car manufacturer’s seasonal sartorial intentions. Bridging the gap between Mercedes-Benz’s historically elegant roots and the innovation they would become known for over the years, the C111 ushered in a new era for the company itself and automotive history.
