Since its establishment in 2012, New Balance‘s Tokyo-based Japanese design studio has often been at the forefront of the Boston-based footwear label’s most coveted limited edition releases. Case in point: New Balance’s upcoming C-Series. Developed by design manager Shugo Moritani, the kicks were created with cycling in mind and include apropos features like seam-sealed uppers and bold reflectivity.
Highlighted amongst the new range are a couple of specially-designed CM600Cs that were crafted in conjunction with contemporary urban bicycle maker Tokyobike. Meant to match a couple of bikes that were produced exclusively for the collab, the unique CM600Cs — based on the lightweight 620 runner of the early ’80s — appear in navy and yellow with an ultra slim profile, neoprene tongue and collar, snug inner bootie, cork footbeds to absorb moisture, and a hidden tongue pocket to safely secure the shoe’s laces and keep them away from the front chain ring.
Said Moritani of the release:
We had a clear goal to achieve in designing the C-Series, which was to create a new footwear collection that suited daily fashion and lifestyle while also being a functional urban cycling shoe. It is a deviation from the classic New Balance lifestyle silhouette, but one that was needed to offer our lifestyle consumer a solution for their daily needs. Our hope is that a consumer chooses a C-Series model based on their type of bicycle and fashion style.Look for the Tokyobike releases and two additional colorway of the CM600C to be available at select retailers beginning February 1 while the 996C and high-top CT700C will be available exclusively in Asia and Europe in black and grey colorways.
