Tattoo artist Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy has been lauded for his namesake studio in NYC, amassing a celebrity clientele which includes Rihanna, Lebron James, Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, to name a few. Bang Bang Tattoo now opens the doors to its newest location on Grand Street in Soho, which sees an ultramodern design that appears to be straight out of a sci-fi movie set.
Embracing a clean black and white palette, designer Jesse McGowan reimagined the tattooing experience for customers. Greeted by an angled marble reception desk, guests are led through a dark glass tunnel which includes an immersive digital installation. Next, a long corridor with slim black tables against white walls and oblique lights from above is where clients can meet with artists and receive consultations.
“Imbued with a stark sense of purity and permanence, the striking marble-clad two-level studio has broken new ground in how a tattoo shop can be envisioned,” stated McGowan. The new parlor also opens up to a serene garden with a koi pond placed above a skylight, which includes a glass bottom that can be viewed from below.
Take a closer look at the studio in the gallery and video above. For more design inspiration, read up on YH2 architecture’s TRIPTYCH residence.
