"CONTACT HIGH: A Visual History of Hip-Hop" Exhibit Spotlights Iconic Portraits
Inspired by the revered book of the same name, “CONTACT HIGH: A Visual History” is a massive photo exhibition that spotlights 140 rare works from 60 acclaimed photographers in the music industry curated by Vikki Tobak.
On view at the Annenberg Space for Photography, the sprawling presentation celebrates the work of hip-hop photographers including Barron Claiborne, Brian “B+” Cross, Eric Coleman, Estevan Oriol, Janette Beckman, among others. Highlights include Barron Claiborne’s iconic Notorious B.I.G. portraits and throwback snapshots of Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, and Kanye West before they became big names; Janette Beckman’s photos of Salt-N-Pepa; as well as insights into Jamel Shabazz and Gordon Parks’ documentarian approach to photographing hip-hop culture.
Accompanying the photographs are archival videos, memorabilia, and music to demonstrate “how the documentation of a cultural phenomenon impacts politics, culture and social movements around the world,” as per the institute. Not to mention, a pop-up record shop selling rare vinyl records is also part of the showcase.

IWC Schaffhausen’s Ingenieur model was born in the ’50s, but it wasn’t until more recently that the watch moved closer to the centerstage in IWC’s lineup with the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date Month, and now the watchmaker has released a limited grade 5 titanium edition — a material commonly used in aerospace applications or internal combustion engines.
Housed in a 45mm grade 5 titanium case is an IWC in-house caliber 89801, capable of recognizing the lengths of different months and can even register a leap year every four years, with a 68-hour power reserve. On top of this tech-packed caliber sits a flush grey dial with black and white hands and hour markers, all of which are luminescent in the dark. The watch is water resistant up to 120 meters, and comes with a black calfskin leather strap that compliments the darker tones of the watch. Turned over, the caseback features a display-glass for the caliber 89801 to be admired in all its glory.
The IWC Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date Month is now available over at IWC’s site for $37,400 USD. Those interested can contact the brand for more information on how to get your hands on one of them, but definitely act fast, as there are only 100 examples made.
Nike has unveiled its full “BETRUE” collection ahead of Pride Month. The pack sees four silhouettes — the Air Max 720, Air Tailwind 79, Zoom Pegasus Turbo and Benassi JDI slide — reworked to feature the iconic rainbow flag designed by Gilbert Baker.
The Air Max 720 sees the rainbow flag added as a gradient pattern across the sneaker’s mesh upper, complete with Gilbert Baker’s signature on the 720 Air unit. The Air Tailwind 79 features the flag in a more subtle way, appearing as an eye-catching detail on the heel tab. The rest of the sneaker’s mesh upper comes in lilac-grey, complete with suede around the toeboxe, heel and eyelet panels and a black leather Swoosh.
The third sneaker in the pack, the Zoom Pegasus Turbo, comes with a primarily black upper, which is offset by a rainbow stripe which runs down the sneaker. The rainbow detailing also appears as glitter around the lacing unit and ankle. Lastly, Nike has also dressed its iconic Benassi JDI slide with the rainbow flag, covering the slide’s strap.
The Air Max 720, Air Tailwind 79 and Benassi JDI will all release via the Nike web store and select stockists including END. on June 1. The Zoom Pegasus Turbo will then follow on July 14.
The COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Shox TL was originally spotted at its Spring/Summer 2019 Paris Fashion Week show and now, the reworked retro silhouette has finally got an official release date. After dropping in CDG stockists in Japan, the highly-anticipated collaborative pair now gets a closer look.
COMME des GARÇONS has given the Nike Shox TL an all-black upper, distressing the Swoosh branding and giving the entire textile upper and tongue a cut-and-sew, frayed finish. Co-branding is placed upon the tongue in contrasting white text, while the sneaker’s detachable jewelry piece stands out in gold across the vamp section.
The detachable chain is pieced together like a necklace and locks between the Shox TL’s futuristic and highly cushioned sole unit. Take a look at the triple black iteration above and pick up both this pair and the all-white and silver version at COMME des GARÇONS stockists worldwide for approximately $357 USD on June 13. Both pairs are currently available at the CDG Aoyama store as well as CDG locations across Japan and Dover Street Market Ginza.
The King of Bling, Johnny Dang, has partnered alongside Warner Bros. to create a massive one-of-a-kind Godzilla diamond chain and pendant for the franchise’s upcoming film Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Placing the pendant alongside a heavyweight cuban link chain, the piece showcases the infamous monster atop of the forthcoming film’s name.
Detail-wise, the new pendant comes doused in head-turning gold, and has been emblazoned with hundreds of black diamonds, with the Godzilla typography utilizing emerald diamonds. The eyes of the massive beast utilize oval cut Rubys. You can check out the new piece in the gallery above. The film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, arrives in theaters this Friday, May 31.

FRESH SUMMER KICKS:
Following March’s “White/University Red” release, Jordan Brand is dropping off another iteration of the beloved Air Jordan 3 Tinker silhouette. Crafted with a sharp black suede and leather upper, this model features black-on-black elephant print overlays around the toe and heel. Golden lace eyelets provide a bright pop of color, while splashes of a reflective 3M grey hue can be found surrounding the eyelets, tongues and the panel’s Swoosh logos. With additional branding arriving in the form of tonal Nike Air emblems on the heel, the shoe rests on a clean white midsole for additional contrast.

adidas Originals continues to fuel its Trimm-Trab “Rivalry Pack” with a size?-exclusive drop of two Paulista derby-themed pairs. The sneaker, made famous by the British “casual” football scene, previously dropped in clashing Liverpool and Everton colorways. This time around, the Three Stripes visits São Paulo, Brazil for two homage-paying retro reworks.
The capsule is themed around the famous Paulista Derby, which sees two of the oldest clubs from São Paulo come up against each other. The latest “Rivalry Pack” features a pair inspired by each of the two clubs to take part in the historic derby, Corinthians and Palmeiras. The Corinithians-themed pair comes in tumbled white leather atop a black sole unit and black and red leather detailing, while the Palmeiras pair is finished in green suede and white leather.
Both pairs feature metallic “TRIMM-TRAB” logo stamps in gold foil on the sides, a sculpted PU outsole, D-ring eyelets and a textured tongue — each detail staying true to the silhouettes vintage aesthetic. Rasheed Wallace is unarguably one of the most popular Air Force 1 ambassadors of all time. Winning his first and only championship season wearing player exclusive iterations, Nike continues to celebrate the four-time All Star’s legacy with the Air Force 1 “Sheed,” a white-on-white model reminiscent of the 2003 release. Crafted with a luxurious patent leather upper, tonal branding details arrive on the panel and strap Swooshes, the Nike Air typography on the heel with a matching tongue tag. Wallace’s signature fadeaway jumper on the lateral heel serves as the special edition footwear’s highlight, paying tribute to the NBA star’s passion for the game.

Nike is following its earlier iteration of the LeBron 16 “Four Horsemen” with a bright new colorway — the LeBron 16 “Heritage.”
The latest LeBron 16 “Heritage” is graced with pops of multi-colored panels in pastels of yellow, purple and light blue. The upper sees a yellow mesh tongue accented with branding at the top and the numbers “2” and “3” woven over each respective foot. The body is lined with purple BattleKnit 2.0 Flyknit, designed for its breathability and lightness. A mini-Swoosh appears over the blue heel that denotes 16 Championship years the LA Lakers holds in the NBA. The midsole comes speckled with a tri-pod bubble sole unit, combining Max Air and Zoom Air cushioning technology that uses the absorbs shock from hard landings and channels out explosive bounce-back. Other details like the ripstop heel pull and herringbone-patterned grey outsole round up the sneaker.
The Nike LeBron 16 “Heritage” will be available at 10 a.m. EST, May 31 at Nike’s website for $200 USD.
After news of a potential collaboration first surfaced earlier this month, images of the special-edition Toy Story 4 x adidas UltraBOOST 19 have now emerged. The new colorway to surface is themed around Buzz Lightyear, with a white Primeknit upper offset with light green panelling.
Elsewhere, the sneaker features other colors taken from the iconic character, including orange detailing on the toebox and Three Stripe branding and a purple heel cage. The sneaker is then finished with a black Toy Story 4 tongue tab and an image of Buzz Lightyear on the footbed.
The Buzz Lightyear-themed Toy Story 4 x adidas UltraBOOST 19 will release on June 21, alongside the arrival of the movie. There will also be a child’s version of the sneaker releasing on July 11.
