The National Portrait Gallery in London is honoring the legacy of the late Michael Jackson with a monumental exhibition entitled “Michael Jackson: On the Wall.” The presentation will spotlight significant archival works alongside new pieces from over forty celebrated artists such as David LaChapelle, Donald Urquhart, Dara Birnbaum, Todd Gray, and Candice Breitz. Accompanying the artworks is a special edition catalog that boasts KAWS‘ visual homage to Jackson initially printed for the September 2009 issue of Interview Magazine as depicted in the Instagram post below.
“Since Andy Warhol first used his image in 1982, Jackson has become the most depicted cultural figure in visual art by an extraordinary array of leading contemporary artists,” said the gallery in a statement. “Michael Jackson: On the Wall” will aptly launch to the public on June 28.
