FRESH KICKS: ADIDAS

Following on from last year’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection, Alexander Wang and adidas Originals have continued their ongoing collaboration for Season Five. The latest collection is inspired by 1980s “club leisure,” with pieces designed for both club and gym settings.
The full collection from the two brands is set to hit select adidas retailers and the adidas web store on April 20.

Following reworks from the likes of Y-3 and Eric Emanuel, the classic adidas Rivalry basketball sneaker has received a set of summer-friendly colorways. Offered in the contemporary RM makeup, the retro-indebted shoes boast beefy midsoles and colorful accents atop the vamp.

Each utilizing a beige base to highlight the colorful accents, two new models of the tall basketball sneaker have emerged in time for warmer weather. Tonal leather uppers mesh with the complementary toecap, translucent heel panel and gum-tinged rear outsole, with a clean white BOOST midsole for on- or off-court comfort. Suede on the tongue and white rope laces grant the sneaker a clean, modern finish.

Different hues inform the leather panels on the tongue, shaft and toebox, distinguishing the new models. One makeup offers black and red accents, making for a sporty twist on the beefy shoe, while the other is informed by sunny yellow. Regardless of accent, the sneakers both retain gold-tinged branding beneath the tongue’s leather pulltab.

After dropping its Continental 80 model in a beige and orange colorway, adidas Originals has jazzed up the retro silhouette with a leopard pony hair edition. The latest version features animal print all around the upper with neutral details for a contrasting touch.

Core Black is coated on the tongue, heel and laces of the low-top, while the midsole is featured in all-white. Branding around the shoe is stamped in white, helping the logo patches stand out against the wild brown and tan pattern. French terry is lined along the interior, which includes an OrthoLite sockliner for extra cushioning, while a gum rubber outsole rounds out the footwear.

The adidas Originals Continental 80 is priced at £110 GBP (approximately $140 USD) and available to purchase now from select retailers such as ASOS and Sneakersnstuff.
