This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, and various brands across the globe have released special editions to celebrate the momentous occasion — from LEGO to Swiss watchmakers RJ. OMEGA previously joined the ranks with both an 18K gold and a stainless steel release of two 50th anniversary Speedmasters, but the company is now further expanding the collection with yet another limited edition release — this time in collaboration with NYC’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Aside from sponsoring the museum’s “Apollo’s Muse: The Moon in the Age of Photography” exhibition, OMEGA has worked with The Met Store to create a tailored Speedmaster, based on the original “First OMEGA in Space.” The original classic was worn by astronaut Wally Schirra during the Mercury Sigma 7 mission back in 1962. The revamped version now comes in a 39.7 mm stainless steel case, a black anodized aluminium bezel and an equally-black varnished dial. All that houses an OMEGA calibre 1861, a descendent of the manual-winding movement used by NASA’s Apollo astronauts on the Moon. The collaboration also sees an array of OMEGA and The Met logos engraved onto the watch, especially on the caseback, which features The Met’s logos as well as OMEGA’s famous seahorse medallion. Presented in a special box, the watch comes with both a red and white NATO strap resembling the colors of The Met, and a second leather strap. Collectors who wish to get their hands on this rare timepiece can do so exclusively at the OMEGA Boutique on Fifth Avenue, NYC, as well as The Met Store, and online, at a price of $5,200 USD.
As for the exhibition, which showcases more than 170 photographs as well as illustrations, drawings, prints, paintings, and an array of astronomical instruments and technical gear used in the Apollo 11 mission, it’ll be on display at The Met Fifth Avenue from July 3 to September 22.
Stranger Things 3 is just around the corner, and the hugely-popular Netflix show has really stacked up on collaborations this season, with Levi’s or H&M — among many others — allowing you to dress like the characters straight out of ’80s Hawkins. Now, you can even ride like one of them, with the latest Mongoose release of a Stranger Things-inspired BMX bicycle.
The bike is modeled after Max Mayfield’s ride in the upcoming season, its iconic yellow flare bringing back the ’80s. As a working replica, this special edition piece is full of show-accurate details, including a replica frame and fork, the highly-recognizable five-spoke mag wheels, a Mongoose padset, and even a black and silver “Hawkins Bicycle License” sticker dated 1985. A front headlamp keeps you well equipped for an adventure to the Upside-Down, and if you don’t want to go alone, two rear axle pegs allow you to carry an extra passenger so you can bring your friend with you on your next expedition.
The Mongoose Stranger Things 3 Freestyle Bike is now available over at Target, and will set you back $220 USD.
Since linking with Cactus Plant Flea Market and announcing a collection with adidas, Kid Cudi’s collaborations continue to roll in as New Era becomes the latest brand to tap the rapper for a partnership that hits close to home. The headwear company announced today a special Cleveland Indians All-Star 59FIFTY® cap designed with the musician, both reflecting his birthplace and aligning with the upcoming MLB All-Star Game set to take place in the Ohio hub.
A “dripping” red variation of the Cleveland Indians’ logo is patched onto the front of the hat, which is offered in navy blue to reflect the team’s colors. Kid Cudi’s moniker comes into play on the back, embroidered in white and placed underneath another bright red “C” emblem. The 2019 MLB All-Star game is reflected on the side as the final point of Cleveland branding, rounding it off.
The Kid Cudi x New Era Cleveland Indians All-Star 59FIFTY® retails for $45 USD and is set to release on July 6 at Xhibition Cleveland, as well as the brand’s webstore. It rolls out to NewEraCap.com, KidCudi.com and MLB.com starting July 7.
