Hood By Air, the avant-garde streetwear brand that announced its return from hiatus in July 2020, has released its first ready-to-wear campaign since reentering the scene. Shot by Luis Alberto Rodriguez, the black-and-white images reveal Hood By Air’s first full-fledged collection, titled “THE PROLOGUE,” since relaunch. According to a press release, the range “acts as a pre-collection to the brands official return.”
HBA founder Shayne Oliver tapped Naomi Campbell to front the new campaign, a choice inspired by Oliver’s continued exploration of strong Black female figures. “Her laughing and her looks just reminds us of the mother figures in our lives and how they interact with us in a loving but stern way,” the designer told The New York Times. Staying true to the label’s hard-edged, gender-fluid aesthetic, the new collection features armor-like pieces with removable components — a pair of leather pants is constructed with oversized, zippered pockets akin to detachable pouches and a cropped bomber jacket is made with elongated, tapered sleeves that snap together like a straightjacket.
