In support of the Black Lives Matter movement, Takashi Murakami has unveiled limited-edition prints featuring his iconic flower and skull motifs. All six black screen artworks have been signed and numbered by Murakami himself, and will be available to purchase via the NTWRK app sometime in July. The Japanese artist said in a statement:
“I have said that a role of an artist is to discern the present and express it for the future audience. But if my art can effect any change here and now, I want to contribute it not only to give back but to give power to the Black community plagued by the racial injustice.”
One hundred percent of the sales from this collection will be donated equally to U.S. organizations fighting for social justice and racial equality such as Black Lives Matter, Equal Justice Initiative and Color of Change. According to a press release, the prints are expected to raise over $1 million USD in charitable contributions.
Pricing details and the official launch date of the limited-edition print collection have yet to be disclosed, so stay tuned while we wait for more information. In related news, COMME des GARÇONS’ CDG has dropped a social justice charity capsule.
