Legacy fashion house Ralph Lauren (NYSE:RL +3.26%has become synonymous with American wealth and luxury living – from custom suiting to home goods and accessories. But one of the brand’s most popular creations is perhaps its classic POLO shirt, now celebrating the 50th anniversary with an accompanying coffee table book release titled Ralph Lauren’s POLO SHIRT

The RL company (which includes the namesake label Ralph Lauren, Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Double RL, Polo Ralph Lauren and more), has announced the release of a 544-page tome – published by Rizzoli New York – that captures the cultural impact and style significance of the POLO shirt. It includes an introduction by Mr. Ralph Lauren, a foreword by Ken Burns and an afterword by David Lauren

As a hardcover, the book measures in at 6.5” x 8.5” and comprises 400 color photographs with historic imagery and personal stories from celebrities, royals, athletes, and political figures detailing how individuals have made the iconic shirt their own. It also examines the origins of the shirt becoming affiliated with marquee events such as the US OpenWimbledon and the US Olympics

The label calls the book “a hefty, stylish compendium of everything you ever wanted to know about Ralph Lauren’s timeless icon,” and reflecting on the rise of the popular item, Mr. Ralph Lauren says, “It was never about a shirt, but a way of living.”

In addition to the book’s celebration, the company has opened a “Polo Shirt Concept Store” in Ginza and will open the second one in Berlin on May 18. The shop will solely sell the RL POLO shirt and will offer an extensive range of the item along with “Create Your Own” customization options for the family.

Ralph Lauren’s POLO SHIRT coffee table book is currently available – in different color cover options – and retails for $36.95 USD on the Ralph Lauren website.ralph lauren polo logo horse player diver diving watches accessories timepiece Following the success of its Polo Bear vintage timepiece collection back in November last year, Ralph Lauren (NYSE:RL +3.26%has now turned to the world of dive watches for its latest collection, this time adorning its four-piece line with the American fashion house’s iconic Polo logo.

Being a dive watch-inspired model, the new offerings come in a slightly larger 42mm case size, with three constructed from stainless steel and the final one done in a matte black PVD finish. There’ll be three different color options to choose from, including two models with black lacquered dials, one in forest green, and one in navy blue. Much like the Polo Bear collection, each of the new watches are adorned with the signature Polo logo featuring a polo player in action on a horse, with his uniform’s color differing between different colored watch models, all of which carry the word “POLO” at the 12 o’clock position on the dive bezel where a lume pip would normally sit. Strap options are also aplenty, offering a cotton madras strap, a leather strap with ecru stitching, a leather NATO strap in three different colors with the company’s “Sport” logo printed on it, and two bracelets in either stainless steel or a black sandblasted finish. As for its internals, the watches run on a Swiss-made RL200 movement from Sellita, operating at 4Hz and holding a power reserve of a decent 38 hours.

Now available on the retailer’s website, the new Ralph Lauren Polo logo diver range will go from $1,650 USD to $2,150 USD depending on your model and configuration of choice.

ART: Major Takashi Murakami Exhibition Fuses Virtual and Physical Artworks

One scroll down in Takashi Murakami’s OpenSea profile, and you’ll notice his Clone XNFT collaboration with RTFKT having values of over 14 ETH or roughly 40,000+ USD. The numbers are pretty shy compared to the value of his traditional artworks that range from $200,000 to the millions in the secondary market. It’s clear that Murakami is making a big name for himself in the metaverse as his traditional market continues to attract interest. But, what does this mean for Murakami as an artist regardless of his sale prices?

For the acclaimed Japanese artist, the convergence of traditional and digital art marks a sort of “cognitive revolution” as he explained in a statement by Gagosian. In full, he expressed: “When I work on a creative production, I make no distinction between digital and analog. I’m always working in the context of contemporary art, and that context is all about whether I can be involved in events that manage to trigger a cognitive revolution.”

Gagosian is paying homage to Murakami’s continuing traditional art practice and his foray into the world of crypto art by launching a multifold exhibition called “An Arrow through History.” Taking place in two of Gagosian’s NY galleries at 976 and 980 Madison Avenue with the third presentation being a virtual one and available online at Gagosian’s website, the artist will show his fans the type of contemporary art world he envisions which doesn’t solely rely on traditional or physical, rather, futurist implications.

The exhibition marks the artists first one since 2014 with paintings, portraits and all sorts of Superflat pieces inspired by his CloneX avatars and NFT-related pieces including his anticipated Murakami.Flowers NFT collection that will be released at the end of the year. “The artist’s newest interpretation of his iconic flower motif, Murakami.Flowers combines his influential Superflat aesthetic with a style that evokes nostalgia for the pixelated graphics of 1980s video games, especially those played on the Nintendo Famicon console,” stated the gallery.

Other highlighted works include works inspired by an Ancient Yuan Dynasty Vase which will be situated in the gallery’s 976 Madison Avenue space. Vice versa, the works at Gagosian will also translate the digitally modeled NFTs into meticulously detailed, hand-painted portraits and full-scale figurative sculptures—physical manifestations of art created for the metaverse.

Running from May 11 to June 25, “An Arrow through History” will open in New York just ahead of a special exhibition dedicated to Murakami at the Broad in Los Angeles. Featuring all of the museum’s Murakami works and new immersive environments, “Takashi Murakami: Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow” will be on view from May 21 through September 25, 2022. Gagosian has also announced that the gallery now accepts cryptocurrency. Through a partnership with Coinbase, payments will be accepted in Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), and USD Coin (USDC). Visit Gagosian’s website for more information.

In case you missed it, Gagosian recently opened a new boutique in the heart of London.

The “break” from his traditional output functions as both a literal and metaphorical intermission between his projects, as if sandwiched between TV programming.

In addition to the exhibition, various original collectibles will also be available for purchase including rugs, skateboard decks, and collaborative T-Shirts with Japan’s heritage streetwear brand WTAPS. As a coffee enthusiast, Vides will also be collaborating with KITH TREATS in Miyashita Park who will be serving coffee-flavored ice cream using beans sourced by Vides himself.

HERE ARE 4 HAIR TRENDS TO TRY THIS SUMMER

Summer Hair Predictions Trend to Try bob afro curls pastel hairstyles

Summer is on the horizon and the question of the moment is: When you let your hair down this summer, which style will you choose? Authentic Beauty Concept advocate and hair expert Justin Toves-Vincillone details the top summer trends and the best products to maintain them. Key aesthetics, according to Toves-Vincillone, include easy-to-care-for styling and approaches that complement the natural texture of your hair.

Read on for more inspiration before your next hair appointment.

Monochromatic Pastels

Pastel hair color has been one of the top trends embraced for the year. Whether you want to go for a vibrant and edgy look, or pull a sophisticated take on it with a monochromatic shade, be sure that you or your stylist has the correct tools to maintain the color. Toves-Vincillone shares a key tip: “Pastels can be sensitive to the hair cleansing process. To prevent any unwanted fade, cleanse in cool water using Authentic Beauty Concept’s Glow Range, formulated specifically for colored hair to leave your hair with a gorgeous reflective shine.”

Retro Fringe

In a pivot to the return of the ’70s fringe will be back in a style that can frame your face and add a modern approach. Toves-Vincillone advises using a hair mousse before blow-drying to add volume and life, and finishing with a texture spray to hold the look.

The Plumed Afro

Natural curls will always win. With the passing of the CROWN Act, we will see more natural texture worn in bigger ways, from voluminous curls and waves, to textured hair with vivacious color. Toves-Vincillone’s secret tip is to use a cleansing conditioner to cleanse away oil and build-up without stripping the hair.

Jaw Length Bobs

The bob is a classic staple haircut, but there are so many variations of the style that we will see over the summer, such as the bottleneck bob. Toves-Vincillone recommends choosing a hydrating shampoo and conditioner for a good foundation for styling, followed by a primer for heat protection. You can also add a texture spray and pomade to your routine for extra lived-in texture.
