Maharishi sub-label MAHAPATCHCO. is exploring the Vietnam War era in its new capsule, “Entertainers Tour.” In a lookbook shot by Cosmo Webber, we see Don Letts, Flohio, Obongjayar, Richard Russell, Alex Turnbull, and more decked in outerwear inspired by the gear that was worn by those serving in the war, but each piece has been given a rework to reflect a bygone era.
Furthermore, MAHAPATCHCO. has looked to the entertainers that would visit troops during the war for this capsule. Musicians, actors, and comedians would tour military barracks and throughout their stay, they would collect patches as souvenirs. Often, these patches were oversized so they could be seen on stage, and by the end of their tour, these jackets would be covered to the nth degree.
In honor of this, the MA-1 flight jacket (which now has a kimono-style collar), the 1940’s crushed hemp oversmock-inspired Utility Smock, and the military nurse-inspired poncho have been covered in patches. These have been designed or inspired by Hyperdub, Myoshka, Kay One, Teach, Todd James, OJAS, Gasr, Andy Warhol, and XL Recordings, and sit alongside rare original patches from U.S. Navy Riverine units and authentic ’60s anti-war patches, giving the pieces a collage effect.
Naturally, a palette of khaki green or black dominates the capsule, but there are also certain pieces (such as the MA-1 jacket) that appear in a lilac hue as well.
