STYLE: BIKES, BOTTLES & WATCHES

Specialized Aethos Cycling Release Information road bike where to buy carbon fiber

Since its inception almost 50 years ago, Specialized has forged a reputation for crafting some of the best bikes the sport has ever seen. Yet for 2021, the brand removes racing and competitiveness from its design process, to focus on delivering a product capable of offering the purest road riding experience imaginable: the Aethos.

The newest member of the Specialized family, the Aethos is void of fancy performance-enhancing design configurations and looks as sleek as many other road bikes at first glance. But on closer inspection, the Aethos revolutionize the future of modern road bikes.

With UCI legal weights not an issue in the design, Specialized was able to go as light as desired on the frame. While there’s nothing abundantly streamlined about its look, the internal brake system has been stripped back, while the stem and handlebars have been slimmed down, all the while retaining ultimate handling and stiffness.

Aesthetically the Aesthos is dressed in a “Satin Flake Silver/Red Gold” color scheme and is also available in “Carbon/Red Gold” hues too.Moët & Chandon Yoon Ahn AMBUSH champagne lvmh beats dior men collaborationsYoon Ahn’s label AMBUSH has a rich history of collaborations: the streetwear imprint has previously worked on projects with brands that range from Beats to Dior Men. But its latest partnership hopes to offer something wholly new: a collaboration with the LVMH-owned Moët & Chandon, to produce a collector’s-item champagne bottle.

The project, which is the first ever global collaboration for the French champagne house, sees Ahn re-designing the bottles of Moët Impérial and Nectar Impérial Rosé.

Speaking about the collaboration with HYPEBEAST, Ahn acknowledged that working with a brand with such a heritage was, initially, a daunting experience. “It’s challenging,” she says, “but in a good way. We all know what Moët is! So I was very familiar with the product. But I wasn’t as familiar with their history, and how deep it went. I’ve come to really appreciate that champagne-making is an art. It was kind of an education for me.”

Ahn’s reimaging of Moët’s bottles has a distinctly minimal approach: the necks of both bottles are produced in black, set against a new embossed label in white. Additionally, a portion of profits from the sale of the Moët & Chandon x AMBUSH bottles will be donated to the World Land Trust, an international conservation charity that protects threatened natural habitats.

“We are thrilled with this partnership with Yoon,” says Moët’s Cellar Master, Benoît Gouez. “It brings a disruptive freshness to the centuries-old heritage of Moët & Chandon, and aligns with our own commitment to preserving nature to ensure a bright future for the next generation.”

For her part, Ahn wears the mantle of a ‘disruptor’ with pride. “I like to ask a lot of ‘Why Not’ questions,” she says. “I want to ask things that might not have been asked previously. But I don’t set out to break the rules: I’m just being me.”

The Moët & Chandon x AMBUSH capsule collection is available from selected department stores, hotels, bars and wine stores now. For more information, check out the Moët & Chandon site.

Oris‘ latest ocean-going watch celebrates the Whale Shark to highlight the danger that faces the world’s biggest fish.

Based on the Aquis GMT, this 2,016-piece limited edition features a Whale Shark skin pattern embossed on its blue dial.

The Whale Shark was added to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Globally Endangered species in 2016, as the population has more than halved in the past 75 years.

Oris ambassador explorer and underwater photographer, Gerardo del Villar, is working to conserve the shark, which is fished for food and use in traditional medicine, but is the only surviving member of the prehistoric Rhincodontidae family.

Oris’ partnership with Gerardo aims to help him spread the word, make documentaries, host exhibitions and conserve endangered marine animals such as the whale shark. Del Villar will soon release a short film focused on Whale Shark.

The 43.5mm stainless steel watch is water resistant to 300m, individually numbered on the caseback and features a unidirectional 24-hour ceramic bezel, which allows the watch to keep track of three different time zones.

The Whale Shark Limited Edition is available now priced $3,200 USD. Head over to Oris for more details.
