During the same event, the Caribbean nation cut ties with Queen Elizabeth II, removing her as head of state.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we therefore present to you, the designee, for national hero of Barbados, ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty,” Prime Minister Mia Mottley said. “May you continue to shine like a diamond and continue to bring honor to your nation by your words, by your actions, and to do credit wherever you shall go.”

The singer-slash-entrepreneur, who was born in Barbados, has gained the right to use the title Right Honorable in front of her name. This isn’t the first time Rihanna is honored on the island. In 2018, she held the title of ambassador for culture and youth in Barbados. Additionally, since 2008, many have been celebrating “Rihanna Day” on February 22.
