For its latest cover, ELLE UK has tapped British rapper and grime artist Stormzy. For the issue, the magazine highlights Stormzy’s collective of inspirational young black Britons who inspire him, spotlighting models Jourdan Dunn and Leomie Anderson, athletes Joshua Buatsi, Wilfried Zaha and Dina Asher-Smith, activist Temi Mwale, actor Damson Idris, singer-songwriter Tiana Major9, and poet, author and model Yrsa Daley-Ward.
Curating his own collective, the rapper aims to encourage young, black Brits by showing them that they can excel in whatever they want.“There have been incredible achievements, but black Britishness is not always well documented. Now it’s time to say, ‘it’s here, it’s vibrant and it’s alive’. This country [has a history of] reducing young black British men and women, but we’re a whole spectrum of incredible things, and we’re on a mission to show that to the world,” said Stormzy to ELLE UK.
In the issue, the artist also speaks about his upcoming headline spot at popular music festival Glastonbury, as well as his performance at the 2018 Brit Awards. Take a look at Stormzy’s cover and feature in the gallery above, and get your copy of ELLE UK on January 10.
