FRESH KICKS:

Nike adds to its newly-formed D/MS/X line with multilayered variation of the Air VaporMax.

Touted as “finding new form on the fringes,” D/MS/X looks to the outskirts of sport–like urban motorcross–for inspiration in remixing classic and new sneakers that capture the zeitgeist with functional excellence in mind. Here, the ever-popular, forward-reaching Air VaporMax sole unit sits beneath an upper with mixed-material-overlays that include leather, mesh, nylon, rubber and Flyknit. This multilayered upper is then painted in an assortment of contrasting hues — black, white, teal and orange, along with a dash of blue on the sole. Whether or not they actually takes design cues from the world of motorcross, these kicks certainly fit the bill.

The Nike Air VaporMax D/MS/X “Midnight Turn/White-Mineral Teal” is slated to hit retailers, like Extra Butter, on July 13 for $190 USD.

Last month, adidas Skateboarding introduced the Triple White Tyshawn, Supreme rider and Skater of the Year Tyshawn Jones’ first-ever Pro Signature shoe. Now, in honor of beloved New York City venue and bar Max Fish’s 30th anniversary, adidas’ skateboarding division is commemorating the popular space’s three decades of operation with a new Max Fish Campus ADV.
“We are happy to kick off our first 30-year anniversary partnership with adidas Skateboarding,” Marc Razo, co-owner of Max Fish, shares via an official press statement. “The brand’s commitment to the community mirrors our own. It’s been such a fun project to work on and we are thankful to everyone who made this dream a reality.”
Notably, adidas Skateboarding and Max Fish’s collaborative Campus ADV — which was debuted in October of last year — features a luxe navy suede upper, with red branding and the silhouette’s signature Bounce midsole cushioning system, “Geoflex” herringbone sole and “molded” EVA sock-lining. Rounding out the sneaker’s exterior presentation: the words “MAX FISH LES” adorn a portion of the “screen printed red polka dot” design, paying homage to Max Fish’s renowned blue and red polka dot interior.

Seen on the runway last month at Paris Fashion Week for its SS20 collection, LI-NING has returned with a futuristic-looking footwear piece — the Furious Rider Ace 1.5 silhouette in “Black.”
The sneakers sport a highly detailed black upper, layered in panels of rubber, leather and mesh. At the top of the tongue is a neoprene section, stamped with “LI-NING” in translucent silicone bubbles. Tinted rubber panels appear along the rear sidewalls and heel, offset by black leather strips placed at the forefoot. The silhouette is also decked with graphic motifs at the sides and heel collar while intersecting white laces accent the blacked-out footwear piece. Rounding out the details is a chunky midsole with slight articulation at the back and jagged treading at the front.

After releasing its clear-soled derby shoe last month, Prada has focused on other creative footbed solutions for the silhouette – a set of leather boots and derbys with a chunky Wheel Sole.
Graced with black leather uppers, the footwear pieces are constructed with tonal stitching, eyelets and laces that add sleek outlooks to the classic silhouettes. The Black Wheel Sole Zip Boots comes with a long zipper on the medial sides that stops at the midsole, a modern adjustment to the traditional mold for easy on-and-off. The defining highlight of the piece is its thick treading, bearing a close resemblance to that of the treads on a tire with its large rubber ridges. Curved diamond-shapes are etched along the middle of the sole, curving up slightly to the toe cap. The derbys are also equipped with the rubber footbeds, coming in iterations of black and green.
Prada’s Wheel Sole footwear pieces are currently available on SSENSE.COM for $820 – $950 USD.
