“The first watch worn on the moon” is a monumental feat that belongs to just one manufacturer: Omega. The Omega Speedmaster Pro was famously worn by Buzz Aldrin during Apollo 11’s inaugural moon landing, forever linking the iconic timepiece’s with Earth’s most salient celestial body. In the 39 year since the Moon Watch earned its prodigious title, Omega has released numerous special editions that pay homage to its history. But perhaps no other Speedmaster has been as visually striking as Omega’s latest release: the “White Side of the Moon,” a watch inspired by the the brilliant radiance of the moon as it lights up the night sky. The “White Side of the Moon” is crafted from a premium white ceramic, and paired to a matching white leather band, creating the effect of a watch that’s been bathed in moonlight. Red accents on the tip of the second-hand, the interior stitching of the band, and on the Speedmaster logo remain the only flashes of color visible on this side of the Moon. While ceramic may not be a material commonly associated with high end timepieces, the use of it here is impactful because it pays off the watch’s design concept so effectively. The “White Side of the Moon” is a watch intended to stand out, one that deliberately differs from other Speedmasters before it. With it’s brilliant white-out aesthetic, the new Speedmaster is a watch that shines just like its second home.

Since 2011, Urwerk UR-110 has amassed an impressive catalog of watches with seven iterations in total including an award for Best Design from the GPHC. Now, founders Martin Frei and Felix Baumgartner have teamed up with London-based tailor Timothy Everest to create EastWood, a polished take on the watch’s high-tech satellite display architecture. The watch takes both retro and futuristic aesthetics and combines them into this classic timepiece. Two variations of this bezel are available on the EastWood: Macassar ebony from Indonesia or Red Ivory from South Africa. Complete with a grade 5 titanium case, it offers a contrast to the precious wood of the watches construction. Just 10 examples of the EastWood will be produced (five with Macassar, five with Red Ivory) marking the end of the UR-110 product line. For more information, visit Urwerk’s official site.
