Vincent van Gogh’s ‘L’Allée des Alyscamps’ Sells for $66.3 Million
Vincent van Gogh’s L’Allée des Alyscamps, which he painted while working side-by-side with Paul Gauguin, has fetched $66.3 million at auction. Offered up at Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Evening sale, its expected valuation at the beginning of the night was $40 million, which it had obviously very easily surpassed. Five bidders competed for the painting, with an Asian private collector ultimately claiming ownership. Final earnings for the auction amounted to $368.3 million, making it the second-highest total in company history in the category.
