Apple Reportedly Ordered 70 Million OLED Panels From Rivals Samsung for the iPhone 8
Apple is on track to releasing the iPhone 8 this year and already a whole slew of rumors have been surfacing. The latest rumor surrounding Apple’s next iPhone is that Tim Cook has recently placed an order with rivals Samsung, requesting approximately 70 million OLED panels. It’s still rumored that Apple plans to release three new iPhone models this year, so the current order would suggest at least one premium model will be boasting a curved screen. This premium iPhone 8 model will most likely cost more than $1,000 USD.
David Hsieh, senior director of the IHS Markit told Nikkei Asian Review, “Apple has ordered 70 million units of OLED panels from Samsung this year, while Samsung is preparing to churn out as many as 95 million for Apple in 2017, in case demand exceeds expectations.” Hsieh also added that it’s “also possible” Apple will carry over some of these devices to 2018, “depending on demand.”
While we wait for Apple to officially announce the new model, make sure to check out all the latest Apple iPhone 8 rumors.
