For its latest Fall/Winter 2017 collection, LA-based label BornxRaised heads to the Bronx for its culturally-driven lookbook. Tapping model Paloma Elsesser and all-star creative Venus X, the duo helps the brand communicate a powerful narrative on modern gentrification. The Bronx, as many New Yorkers are aware, is one of the least gentrified boroughs in the city. Highlighting a community that has withstood the nation-wide trend of forcing out culture in countless neighborhoods, the editorial is a compelling homage to one of the country’s most vibrant areas.
As brand founder Spanto notes:
Paloma and Venus helped to build a crew of their peers, all women of color who are on the move their fields. The shoot was photographed by Renell Medrano, styled by Miyako Bellizzi, with makeup by Raisa Flowers. We (BornxRaised) pull people from our lives in front of the camera, and these women truly represent the BxR ethos and message.
Thanks to all of you, none of this is possible without you.
The BornxRaised Fall/Winter 2017 collection is slated to drop on December 7 at bornxraised.com, as well as at select stockists such as Union Los Angeles, Hirshleifers NY and Selfridges London.
