The results of the 2017 Fashion Awards are rolling in. Designer Jonathan Anderson is the first winner of the night, scoring the Accessories Designer of the Year Award as the creative director of Loewe. Gucci and Dior are also honored in the prestigious ceremony, with the former’s CEO Marco Bizzarri winning the Business Leader Award and Maria Grazia Chiuri receiving the Swarovski Award for Positive Change.
Winning against her fellow runway stars Kaia Gerber, Winnie Harlow and the Hadid sisters, Adwoa Aboah is crowned Model of the Year. The 25-year-old, who started her modelling career almost a decade ago, has been known not only for breaking the beauty standards of the industry, but also for her activism work at her empowering platform, Gurls Talk. Most recently, the model was tapped to front Edward Enninful’s first-ever edition of British Vogue.
Also taking home gold is Off-White™ helmer, Virgil Abloh. The cult-favorite designer, who’s been bridging the gap between luxury and streetwear, is presented the Urban Luxe Award by one of his go-to models, Hailey Baldwin.

TIME is well known for its annual Person of the Year issue, where the magazine profiles a person, idea, object or movement that has had significant influence throughout the year. Previous issues have been dedicated to the likes of Barack Obama and Mark Zuckerberg however the 2017 issue focuses less on one person and more on an entire movement – that of The Silence Breakers.
The Me Too movement has been dominating headlines and social media feeds this year, and rightly so. Sparked mostly by the unravelling of Harvey Weinstein‘s numerous instances of sexual harassment and assault, Me Too has allowed people from all industries and backgrounds to come forward and share their own stories of harassment and abuse in its many forms. Although the cover itself features recognized names like Taylor Swift and Ashley Judd, this issue is not just about celebrities – it’s about everyone. The stories shared include those of a politician, housekeeper, professor and art curator, amongst others, showcasing just how prevalent sexual misconduct is. Only Lupita Nyong’o could shoot a Vogue cover while in tree pose on a floating surfboard. Ahead of the Black Panther February 2018 release, Nyong’o opens up about her journey to becoming a superhero on and off screen. In the highly-anticipated Marvel film, she plays Nakia, bodyguard and paramour of the African kingdom’s leader. The couple lives in Wakanda, a fictional African country that thwarted colonialism and grew to become technologically advanced.
Nyong’o shares what it means to play the character:
For me, as an African who lives outside Africa and wrestles with that dichotomy of tradition and modernity, this is almost healing. We’ve occupied such a servile place in film and TV. It’s nice to see that flipped. The little Kenyan child in me leaped for joy because it’s such an affirmation.
The role not only required her to be poised, which is basically her first nature, but also to be agile and strong for combat sequences. She spent up to four hours a day for six weeks physically prepping alongside her cast mates. To add a bit of fun to her regimen, Lupita has also picked up pole dancing which is one of her many new hobbies she does to keep her life interesting.

Supermodel Bella Hadid has taken to Instagram to reveal her first magazine cover of 2018, in which she graces the cover of Vogue Korea for its January issue.
The dual cover issue was shot by renowned photographer Ahn Jooyoung while the makeup was crafted by Peter Phillips, creative director of Christian Dior Makeup. Hadid’s ultra-busy 2017 saw her landing eight September issue covers including two Elle covers, five Vogue covers and one Harper’s Bazaar cover. Notably, the model also serves as a Nike brand ambassador this year.
