FRESH KICKS: John Geiger and The Shoe Surgeon's Nike Air Force 1 High "Misplaced Checks" / How 'Terminator Genisys' Brought Back the Nike Vandal High/ Air Jordan 1.5 "Chicago"

John Geiger and The Shoe Surgeon's Nike Air Force 1 High "Misplaced Checks" Will Be Released Again
Back in May, custom sneaker designer John Geiger unveiled his Nike Air Force 1 High “Misplaced Checks” sneaker with a limited public release produced by The Shoe Surgeon. The all-red custom sneaker is characterized by its 16 overlapping Swoosh logos made from different fine fabrics like pony hair, nubuck, crocodile leather, ostrich and perforated leather. Each pair is emblazoned with its own individual number in gold. A second, much larger release of the special model has just been announced and is set to drop sometime this week. While the details surrounding the limited run are still unknown, the first release saw the shoe sell out instantly, and at a price of $550 USD per pair. Keep an eye out for Geiger’s Twitter and Instagram for updates surrounding the shoe’s release.
How 'Terminator Genisys' Brought Back the Nike Vandal High
One of the most unexpected retros made a comeback this year, in the form of the Nike Vandal High. Having been out of commission for a few years, the shoe was first thrown into the spotlight in 1984 as the pair of kicks Kyle Reese picked up in the original Terminator movie. And while the NikeLab retro being scheduled for just a week before Terminator Genisys hit theaters may seem like a suspicious coincidence, it really is.
Rewind a year and a half back, when costume designer Susan Matheson was enlisted to work on Genisys. Her first call was to Nike to request a fresh set of the then-discontinued style. Understanding the massive undertaking, but feeling the need to do the footwear justice, Matheson settled for nothing less than authentic, Nike-made shoes. After multiple hurdles and setbacks, she eventually negotiated a limited run of the original sneaker. But her problems didn’t end there, as when she finally received her handful of pairs, around half of them mysteriously went missing. And although filming continued, Matheson was as shocked as everyone else to learn that the shoe was coming back. While Nike hasn’t commented on the coincidence, head over to Sole Collector to read more about Matheson’s journey to get the original Vandal Highs back of Reese’s feet.

Air Jordan 1.5 "Chicago"
If you missed out on the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Chicago” back in May, you’re in luck: Jordan Brand has a unique take on His Airness’ original signature on tap for a release later this month. Originally crafted back in the ’80s, the unique Air Jordan 1.5 was a prototype that followed up the original Air Jordan 1. Previously unreleased, the 1.5 utilizes the iconic “Chicago” upper of the Air Jordan 1 — interestingly, however, the kicks cast the wings logo’s “Air Jordan” text aside in favor of “Nike” branding — and the midsole and outsole tooling of what would eventually become the Air Jordan 2.
The unique piece of footwear history is due out July 25 at select Jordan Brand retailers.
