Horse Brand Co. & Surname Goods’ “Coney Island Boardwalk” Camping Knife

It was a refreshingly warm weekend in New York and the run of good weather has put us in the adventuring mind frame. If you’re hearing the call of the wild, too, then Horse Brand Co. and Surname Goods’ new camping knife will serve you well on your next outdoor trip. Both brands are proudly Big Apple-based, so they wanted their collaboration to celebrate the inherently New York DNA that sets them apart.

To do this, they sourced the Ipe wood used in the knife handle straight from Coney Island’s boardwalk. Post Hurricane Sandy, the area had an abundance of driftwood, which Surname reclaimed for later use. The actual cutting edge is crafted from sturdy carbon steel using processes inspired by traditional Scandinavian blade making. Part of the crafting process also involves painstakingly grinding the edge of the blade for easy cutting and sharpening during field use. It’s finally finished with a thorough brushing and a hand stamped “Horse” logo.
You can purchase yours for $195 through the Horse website.
There is an optional leather sheath available with every purchase. It’s made locally in Brooklyn from thick-cut, vegetable-tanned leather, so it’s guaranteed to hold up just as well as the blade.
