RIDES: Winston Dabbs Takes His 1955 Jaguar XK140 for a Spin / Bentley Mulsanne Speed "Blue Train" Special Edition / Audi Prologue Allroad Concept / BRABUS STARTECH Pickup
Winston Dabbs was a young man in the 1970′s, living in Compton, California, and interested in British cars. His interest prompted him to purchase a 1955 Jaguar XK140 in the 1980′s that was eventually parked in the back of his garage and untouched for fifteen years. Finally, the Jaguar is seeing the light of day again and has been restored to all of its previous glory. Check out what Dabbs calls “the highlight of his life” and take a drive in the Californian sun.
Luxury carmaker Bentley has just unveiled its latest marvel, the Bentley Mulsanne Speed Blue Train Special Edition, designed in conjunction with the 85th anniversary of the “Blue Train” race that was won by the automaker back in 1930. The original Blue Train was driven by Bentley Chairman Captain Woolf Barnato, who would go on to become a three-time Le Mans champion and whose legacy would establish Bentley as one of the best-known and most-loved cars by aficionados the world over. This Mulsanne Speed Blue Train Special Edition features the utmost in luxury details, from the handcrafted wood veneer image of the original Blue Train to the “Blue Train” tread plates and fluting patterns on the door designed to mimic Barnato’s own. Each car also comes with a personalized picnic kit featuring Robbe & Berking silver-plated cutlery, Haviland Limoges porcelain crockery, LINLEY crystal champagne flutes, and an Angora picnic rug. The Bentley Mulsanne Speed Blue Train is a Special Edition in every sense of the word, with production limited to four units and restricted exclusively to European buyers.
Ahead of its official unveiling at next week’s 2015 Shanghai Motor Show, we’re getting a first look at Audi’s Prologue Allroad concept. The third concept in the Prologue series of design studies, the Allroad takes a more rugged direction than the previously revealed coupe and wagon concepts. It’s both longer and taller, and packs a bigger punch under the hood with a hybrid powertrain that pairs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to an electric motor integrated into eight-speed automatic transmission. That translates to an impressive 738 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque driven to all four wheels. The inside sports an elegant blue, beige and brown finish, with a display dashboard and deployable OLED infotainment display in the center console. Until the official reveal, enjoy these images of the Audi Prologue Allroad Concept above.
The 2015 Shanghai Auto Show brings news of a new venture between automotive customizer BRABUS and affiliate company STARTECH. Making its global debut, this converted Range Rover Pickup has been kitted with 100 bespoke body parts made of aluminum, carbon and steel, complete with sizeable forged wheels that dial in at 23 inches. Aside from substantial exterior alterations, the standard engine was replaced with a five-liter, eight-cylinder supercharged variation touting 526 hp, enabling this beast of a vehicle to attain a 100 km/h speed in only 5.3 seconds.
