SPEED: Porsche 918 Spyder / BMW Apollo Streamliner by Mehmet Doruk Erdem / Mercedez-Benz GLC Coupé Concept Car
If you have ever been curious to discover the process of how the Porsche 918 Spyder is made, this latest video carefully details the individual steps taken on Porsche’s hand-assembly line. Compiled as a series of ground level and aerial pans, what is immediately striking is the sheer level of workshop organization and clearly meticulous attitude of each and every employee. Resembling somewhat of a mobile art installation rather than the dark workshop you might have expected to see. Showing the careful construction of the 918 Spyder’s components, the video includes an insight into the car’s hand-stitched leather interior, carbon fibre door panelling and the hand-assembled normally aspirated 4.6 liter v8 engine. Each Porsche 918 Spyder is individually numbered with attention given to the most minute factors ensuring that it stands head and shoulders above the competition — as well as justifying its hefty price tag that can sit anywhere upward of $845,000 USD.
Turkey-based industrial designer Mehmet Doruk Erdem has developed a futuristic motorcycle concept for BMW. Dubbed the “Apollo Streamliner,” the bike is a unique fusion of heritage and cutting edge characteristics, with a particular emphasis on speed. The two-wheeler’s classically-styled brown saddle, exposed engine and rear suspension serves as a contrast to the aerodynamic sloping front section that completely covers the front wheel. Probably more fitted to breaking landspeed records than for daily use, check out the BMW Apollo Streamliner above and head over to designboom to get a better look.
Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled its GLC Coupé concept car at Auto Shanghai 2015. The new coupé sees a more compact silhouette to the GLC, while Mercedes-Benz is closing gaps in its SUV offering by revamping the GLK line. The automobile company is directly competing with BMW’s X models as well as Audi’s popular Q series by expanding its range of SUV’s. The design of the GLC concept is dynamic and eye-catching, will expected delivery slated for fall 2015. Stay tuned for finalized images and final production models coming up soon.
