Brooklyn-based retailer Pilgrim Surf + Supply has teamed up with Vans for a limited edition version of the Classic Slip-On silhouette. The surf store’s pennant replaces the standard checkerboard pattern, and is featured in a navy colorway across the shoe’s canvas upper. A translucent waffle sole and dual branding at the insole round out the collaborative design. This year’s effort follows up the duo’s 2014 effort, which saw a new take on the Van Doren silhouette. Priced at ¥8,800 JPY (approximately $73 USD), the Pilgrim Surf + Supply x Vans Classic Slip-On will be available at BEAMS’ Shibuya and Kobe locations starting April 25.
Yohji Yamamoto’s Y-3 brand in collaboration with adidas continues its application of the BOOST technology with the new Desert Boost and Hayworth Guard. Slated for a fall/winter release, the two sneakers don Y-3′s signature futuristic and monochromatic look. The Desert Boost features a calfskin leather upper and neoprene sock liner sitting atop the BOOST teechnology. On the other hand, the Hayworth Guard is Y-3′s take on basketball shoes, with an air net mesh upper sitting atop its BOOST. Amsterdam-based footwear label Filling Pieces continues to emerge as a wearable alternative to traditional brands, offering up astutely trendy colorways of its sneaker silhouettes. Here we find the brand channeling Pollock-esque brush strikes for the “Splash” colorway of its flagship Low Top. An all-white tanned leather upper has been meticulously patterned with splatters of red, yellow and blue, reminiscent of Pollock’s own No.5 1948, widely regarded as the American artist’s opus. The all-black high top sneaker-boot is simple in design and features textured, full-grain Italian calf leather with hand-painted edges, a white midsole, an adjustable forefoot buckle, and handle on the back.
